Chapter 4: Tagging Checklist

1. Before Tagging

Meet with Project Investigator

• Once a new project begins, meet with the person heading the project (known as the

Project Investigator or P.I.)

o This person will tell you the focus of the project, the respondents they are looking to recruit, how they want the videos tagged and any other information you may need for this project.

Create a Label Sheet

• After meeting with the Project Investigator, the next step is to create a project label sheet.* o The label sheet contains information such as the project name, topic, interviewers, dates of interviews, etc.

o Additionally, the label sheet shows each question that could be asked during the interview along with their individual clip labels o Labels should be the same as “Question ID” in Q-Notes

*See Sample Label Sheet: Bucket2 F on Bucket2 Tagging Updated Tagging Documents Sample Label Sheet

Create a new Project on Q-Notes:

• After meeting with the project investigator and learning how they want their project tagged, you will want to “create” the project in Q-Notes.

o To do this go to http://qdrl1/QNotes/Project/Admin/QuestionDetail/.aspx and login with the username and password you’ve been assigned.

o Click on the “project” tab on the left hand side and then click “Create New Project”.

• Fill in the project information (Project name, investigator, project dates etc.)

and then click “Save”.

• Once the new project has been created, click on “Manage Project” and select the “Questions” tab.

• Once the “Questions” tab has been selected, click on “Add New Questions”.

*Add the questions to Q-Notes in the order that the project investigator described to you.

o The “Question ID” is the individual code that each question was given on the project label sheet.

o The question number denotes the sequence of the questions as they appear on the questionnaire itself.

• For example, in the survey, question 2 may have parts A, B, and C. Therefore, assuming that question only had one part, 2A will be assigned question number “2”, 2B will be assigned question number “3” and 2C will be assigned question number “4”. All following question numbers will proceed from there.

o “Section” will be the section in which the question is located on the survey (Rarely used) o “Question text” should be exactly what is written on the survey. Do not include introductory text or response options. **If possible, copy and paste the question from the actual questionnaire to any avoid typos. ** o “Response format” indicates whether the response options are a “select one only”, “multiple select”, or “open ended”. Please select the format of the response options.

(As of right now, the Yes/No option is not working, do not use. Instead, use “Select One” for these types of response options).

o Once all of the above information is entered, click “Save” and then select “Add New Question” to enter next question.

o Once the question has been entered and saved, a link to add response categories for single selection and multiple selection questions will appear. Click “Add New”. Two boxes will appear where you can enter the answer text and also the sequence of the response option(s). For example, if you are entering the first response option out of a list of three, the sequence for that question will be 1. When you have completed entering the answer information, click “save category.” To enter additional response options, repeat this step.

o Continue this process until all survey questions are entered.

o Be sure to double check that all of the questions and response options have been entered correctly (no spelling errors, missing words, wrong wording, question sequencing is correct, and response options appear in the correct format without any typos).

Note: Some projects are tested in various languages. If this is the case, click the “Manage Project” tab and then “Translations”. A list of questions from the project will appear. Click on the question(s) to translate, and select “Add New”. Fill out and select “Update”. Once everything is translated, click “Save and Continue”

2. Tagging

VideoLogger

• Notification o Once an interview has been completed and uploaded, you will receive notice via e-mail that it is ready to be tagged.

o To tag the interview, follow these steps in VideoLogger.

• When both thumbnails are highlighted, right click and select “Mark Both”

• A new clip should appear in the clips window

3. After Tagging

Importing to Virage Database

** ONLY save to Virage when you are sure everything is correctly tagged and edited ** o Log into Virage at http://bucket2/vsx/login

QDRL Inventory

• Update QDRL Inventory

• Once you have saved a VDF version of the tagged video and have successfully uploaded it to Virage, you must update the QDRL inventory.

• To do this go to Bucket2 F on Bucket2 Tagging QDRL inventory If you encountered any problems at all while tagging/uploading the video (e.g. video malfunction, missing clip, skipping, etc.), document the problem(s) in the Notes section.

• Fill in the necessary information for the new video and save.

• Don’t forget to note the Asset ID in the Notes section.

Import Process

• Once the video is tagged, saved, and in Virage and the project has been created and all questions have been entered into Q-Notes, you will import the clips that you made in VideoLogger into Q-Notes. This will allow interviewers to watch the clips while they write up their notes.

• To do this use the following import process:
