APPENDIX B: ATON STRUCTURE PHOTOS AND NOTES
Basket and Ladder Orientation for Dayboards
Example 3-pile Structure Example 4-pile Structure
Base Bid ATON Structures
1) Grays Harbor Bar Rear Range Light (LLNR 15545)
a. BLUF: No demolition work. Rebuild aid as 4-pile structure with
10’x10’ platform and 50’ high 7’x7’ sectional tower assembly. Access to new location by barge mounted crane may be challenging due to breakwater and proximity of bar. This structure is the first priority structure, construction will start on this structure as soon as is possible.
b. Background: Previous structure was located on land in the Owyhut Wildlife Recreation Area. The structure fell in early 2017 due to severe erosion. The remaining foundation will remain as is.
c. Notes: The new structure location will be in the water. If access is impeded by the Point Brown Breakwater, contractor is permitted to temporarily remove approximately 90 cubic yards (cy) of the breakwater by barge-mounted crane. Any material and stonework removed, must be retained on a barge and re-installed in roughly the same configuration as soon as new ATON is completed. Pre and After build surveys are required.
d. Applicable ATON-STD Drawings: 6, 8, 12, 14.
e. Image: New structure will be similar in design to image below.
f. See Appendix A for additional structure details.
Example of 4-pile ATON with Tall Tower Assembly
2) Point Chehalis Range Front Light (LLNR 15585)
a. BLUF: There are two 4-pile structures here. Both old structures should be demolished, rebuild aid as 4-pile structure with 10’x10’ platform and 20’ high 7’x7’ sectional tower assembly. Access to this location by barge mounted crane may be challenging due to proximity to bar. Sewage outfall line will be disconnected to accommodate demolition of existing structures, and then reconnected to new single-pile daymarker.
b. Background: This range was rebuilt in 2009 to replace the original steel structure which was deteriorating. The older structure is just east of the newer structure. The original structure was left undisturbed as the city of Westport had attached a sewage wastewater outfall line (License DOT-CG13-296-74). The newer structure is too low, unfortunately, and suffers wave damage to the platform deck and steel tower. The old structure interferes with small boats ability to access the new structure. A sub-cable was also originally attached to the older structure, but was reported broken off in 1988.
c. Notes: Contractor will need to work with divers (provided by City of
Westport) to detach sewage outfall line and remove structure. Ladder should be placed on northeast corner of pilings to ensure safe approach and access by small boats. Pre and After build surveys are required.
Points of contact for City of Westport:
Public Works Director: Kevin Goodrich, 360-268-0131 Wastewater Supervisor: Jim Atkinson, 360-268-0512
d. Applicable ATON-STD Drawings: 6, 8, 12, 14.
e. Image: Current structures are shown in image below.

3) Sewage Outfall Line PATON
a. BLUF: This structure does not exist yet. It will be a new private
ATON structure to mark the sewage outfall line. It will be 15’ out of the water with a Reduced ATON Header mounted to it.
b. Background: Point Chehalis Range Front Light is connected to a sewage wastewater outfall line. A new single pile dayboard will be installed to anchor the sewage outfall line and mark the hazard.
Installation of this single pile dayboard must be coordinated with diving services provided by the City of Westport.
c. Notes: Sewage outfall line is connected to the East structure, on the SE pillar, with two straps.
Points of contact for City of Westport:
