About this file

This document is an amendment to a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for drydock repairs to the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw. The amendment addresses two work items:

  1. For Work Item 22 regarding sea strainers, the contractor proposes substituting the specified Mueller 6" duplex strainers with Eaton Model 50 duplex strainers due to lead time concerns. The government is open to overhaul of the existing Mueller strainers if replacement is not advantageous.

  2. For Work Item 36 regarding the impressed current cathodic protection system, the government requires the contractor to provide a certified technical representative from the system manufacturer, Evoqua-Water Technologies, to assist with maintenance, testing, and repair procedures.

The solicitation number for this federal contract opportunity is 70Z08524QIBCT0012 and it is being issued by the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Coast Guard.

CONTINUATION SHEET

USCGC MACKINAW DD

RFQ: 70Z08524QIBCT0012, AMENDMENT 0001

Continuation of SF 30, Block 14, WORK ITEM 22 , PARAGRAPH NO: 1.1

Sea Strainers, All Sizes, Renew QUESTION: The Mueller 6” Duplex strainers listed in Table 1, Strainers, are available from the OEM. However, these have a 12-18 week lead-time from order placement.

We propose substituting the Mueller strainer with an Eaton Model 50 Duplex Strainer, Eaton part number ST0500600F11C. Unlike the Mueller which is a (4) basket Ball Plex type strainer, the Eaton is a (2) basket plug type strainer which was suggested by Eaton as a substitute for this application. The Eaton strainer is readily available, but will likely require piping modifications to be installed. Please advise if it is permissible to substitute the Mueller strainer with the Eaton strainer.

Answer: “If replacement of the Mueller strainers is not advantageous, we would prefer to overhaul the existing Mueller strainers as we did in the FY14 drydock. Upon inspection if the condition of the existing strainers is beyond overhaul, we will evaluate replacement with a different model.”
