Q&A
1. Are we correct in assuming that the MDE has sustained some sort of casualty and is not operational?
The MDE’s are partially mission capable and can be run if they need to.
2. Assuming the MDE can't be run, does the CG know if the reduction gear unit has sustained any damage?
The reduction gear has not sustained any damage.
3. The specification identifies that both MDE's are to be replaced, can you please clarify the number of MDE's to be changed out on the USCGC Paul Clark.
Two MDEs will need to be changed out.
4. The spreader bar that attaches to the MDE for removal and installation, NIIN: 01-F18-544, has this unit been certified or tested in the last 12 months?
We have reached out to the Asset Manager to ask if he has any further insight but as far as we can tell there is no requirement that these spreader bars be certified or tested. It is simply used to spread the sling that is used to lift the MDEs.
