About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document addressing contractor inquiries regarding the Gymnasium Hardwood Floor Restoration project at USCG Station Quillayute River. The Q&A clarifies specific requirements and site conditions for the 3,080-square-foot gym floor restoration scheduled for August 24 through September 24, 2026.

Key clarifications include: baseboards must be removed and reinstalled to ensure a uniform finish; pickleball lines are not required to be painted; basketball and volleyball line colors are specified in the Statement of Work; the facility does not have three-phase power available, requiring contractors to provide their own external power source such as a generator; the facility has no electrical outlets in the gymnasium; the heating system (not air conditioning) can be secured during work to prevent debris contamination; and contractors should budget for equipment rental if necessary to reach high ceilings and AC vents. These answers establish that contractors must be self-sufficient regarding power supply and equipment while maintaining finish uniformity and adhering to specifications outlined in the SOW.

Gym Floor Restoration Questions/Answers

Q. Would they need to remove the Baseboards and Re-Install? It’s recommended because the boards do run underneath.

A. We would like the finish to be Uniform. Yes the Baseboards should be removed and re-installed.

Q. We have Temporary Tape for Pickle ball lines; they wanted to know if we wanted that painted as well A. No Pickleball lines will be necessary.

Q. What is Final Color of Basketball and Volleyball Lines.

A. See SOW

Q. If were equipped to handle 3PHZ Power for their mobile sander?

A. We are not, they would need to run their own external power source.

Q. High Ceilings and AC Vents: The ceilings and AC vents are very high. Should we hire equipment to reach that height, or should we leave them as they are? As a rule of thumb, we do not turn on the AC while refinishing floors to prevent debris.

A. It’s strictly a heating system (no AC), which can be secured if needed to prevent the concern for debris.

Q. Power Supply: I did not see a 3-phase electricity source on-site. Should we factor in an external power source, such as a generator, or will this be provided?

A. We’re looking to have the contractor provide their own external power source. (No Outlets available in the Gym)
