3. REQUIREMENTS

3.1 General.

3.1.1 CIR. The Contractor shall submit a CIR for the inspections listed in the following paragraphs:

3.4. Visual inspection.

27 (Rev-0)

None.

3.1.2 Tech Rep.

Not applicable.

3.1.3 Protective measures. The Contractor shall furnish and install all protective coverings to seal off and protect all non-affected vessel's components, equipment, and spaces near the work area against contamination during the performance of work. Upon completion of work, the Contractor shall remove all installed protective measures, inspect for the presence of contamination, and return all contaminated equipment, components, and spaces to original condition of cleanliness.

3.1.4 Interferences. The Contractor shall handle all interferences in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0000, paragraph 3.3.5 (Interferences). Known interferences include, but are not limited to the following:

Navigation equipment

Chairs

Control console

3.2 Deck system inspection and renewal. Using Coast Guard Drawing 87 WPB 634-001 and SFLC Std Spec 6310 as guidance, the Contractor shall accomplish all work herein.

3.3 Deck preparation. The Contractor shall remove and discard the dielectric matting, existing deck covering system and coatings. Prepare the pilot house deck via mechanical cleaning, using power sanders and abrasive sandpaper (with no metallic contents), to remove all existing coatings and rust spots, down to bare metal (abrasive blasting prohibited). Do not apply underlayment.

3.4 Deck inspection. The Contractor shall visually inspect all pilot house deck surfaces for damage, deterioration, cracking, defects, and all other abnormalities. Submit CIR.

NOTES

If there are indications that framing beneath the deck is unsound or suspect, and it is determined that insulation removal is required to complete the inspection, the amounts and locations shall be identified in the CIR.

There is approximately 100 square feet of overhead insulation below the pilothouse deck.

3.5 Deck preservation. Following all inspections, the Contractor shall ensure the deck is properly prepared and apply one coat (5.0-6.0 mils DFT) of a High Build Epoxy coating, conforming to MIL-PRF- 24647 or MIL-PRF-23236, in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6310, Appendix B (Cutter and Boat Interior Painting Systems). Select finish/top coat color to match original, existing adjacent surfaces.

3.6 New matting installation.

3.6.1 The Contractor shall furnish, fit and install new dielectric matting conforming to MIL-DTL-15562, over the painted aluminum deck surfaces in accordance with appendix D of SFLC STD SPEC 6341. DO NOT adhere entire sheets to the deck. Seal seams as described below.

3.6.2 Use a silicone sealer (MIL-A-46106, Type I) or polysulfide sealant (SAE-AMS-S-8802, class B), to waterproof all seams against bulkheads, stationary furniture, pipes, and other deck fittings. Where weld

28 (Rev-0) lines (beads) prevent deck covering from butting tightly against structure, use a suitable caulking compound in place of tile adhesive; paint the caulking to blend with the deck covering or bulkhead (after the caulking compound has skinned over). Ensure that there are no seams within three feet of electrical hazards. Where this is not possible, accomplish one of the following tasks:

Seal seams between sheets or mats with a thermoplastic deck covering such as vinyl sheet, fused chemically, or heat welded or heat fused with a special hot air gun; or

Install a 3- to 4-inch wide strip of 20 mil thick polyvinyl chloride (PVC) tape, or 1-foot wide strip of the same electrical grade deck covering system under the seams, to prevent a direct path to ground via seams.

3.6.3 Fit and install new Government-furnished anti-fatigue matting over the installed electrical matting.

Renew vinyl cove base molding at all associated bulkhead boundaries.

4. NOTES

This section is not applicable to this work item.
