Bldg. 256. Running Track Resurface and Parking Lot Expansion
Request for Information
Question 1. Can you provide dimensions for the track?
Answer 1. This is the only information I have on measurements of the track; this is from a company that marks tracks. Google Earth is also available. I have no as-builts.
Following are our findings after survey work at the track at the FLETC on 3/8/22.
“The Government established radius points on the infield by using the existing inner stripe of the track as control. Distance between radius points is 344.496'. This is equal to the length of each straight. We took 15 shots in each curve from the radius point to the outer edge of each stripe, using a recently calibrated total station and prism. We found an average radius of 94.911' in the west curve and an average radius of 94.406' in the east curve. By using these numbers, we determined the existing track to have a lap length of 1287.87' in lane one, 32.13' shorter than 1/4 mile (1320'), and 24.464' shorter than 400 meters (1312.334'). So obviously the track is much smaller than a typical outdoor track.”
****The option the Government chose was to simply rebuild the existing track on the same basic footprint, then adjust starting lines to accommodate desired events. Competitors won't start and finish at the same point but starting points can be clearly labelled. ****
Question 2. Can you provide dimensions for the parking lot?
Answer 2. Approximately 5,750 square feet +/-, The Government does not have exact dimensions.
Question 3. Can you provide a size for the new parking area?
Answer 3. Approximately 5,750 square feet +/-, The Government does not have exact dimensions.
Question 4. Can you provide any detail on the new catch basins as it was hard to determine size and hole location at the site visit?
Answer 4. The grates are 24” x 36”, the one on the east end of the track has 24” concrete pipe entering and exiting on opposing sides, the plastic pipe connecting to the basin on the west end is entering the side adjacent to the 24”pipe and this basin is 48” deep. The basin on the west end of the track has only the plastic pipe connecting it to the basin on the east end of the track, this basin is 42” deep
Question 5. Can silt socks be uses in place of silt fence?
Answer 5. No
Question 6. Can the restrooms on site be used by the contractor, or will portajohns be required?
Answer 6. Restroom on site is fine.
Question 7. Will an individual, full time, onsite PM, Superintendent, and Quality Control Manager be required for this contract, per the specifications or will one person be sufficient onsite who will fulfill the role of Superintendent/QC/ SSHO?
Answer 7. One person will be sufficient.
Question 8. The scope of work calls to mill the top two (2) inches of asphalt cement from the existing track, replace milled asphalt with two (2) inches of new binder course asphalt cement, with a 1% pitch towards the inside of the track, and install a new vulcanized track system. With this methodology, any existing elevation issues with the track, such as overall levelness, will remain. Please advise this is acceptable.
Answer 8. The Government is not aware of any unliveliness. The track should be installed by a professional, who should make sure the track is built back up with new asphalt and level and has a 1% pitch to the inside.
Question 9. The drawing provided notes to demo existing catch basins and connecting piping, install new, and reattach to existing piping. Can you please provide the number and approximate sizes of the pipes to remain and be reconnected?
Answer 9. There are 2 pipes to remain and be reconnected, for additional info, please see answer to question 4.
