About this file

This is a Proposed Sole Source Purchase Form submitted by the University of New Mexico (UNM) Continuing Education department for a technology education partnership with Quickstart Learning. UNM Continuing Education seeks to partner with Quickstart Learning to offer cutting-edge coding bootcamp programs to New Mexico students, with the stated goal of preparing individuals for better-paying jobs in the software development field. The proposed vendor will provide live professional instruction, personalized grading and feedback, weekly one-on-one 30-minute mentoring sessions, and Slack support for students. Quickstart Learning's curriculum is driven by industry trends and validated by a curriculum advisory board of industry leaders, designed to prepare students for technical interviews and job placement. The contract is requested for a term beginning June 18, 2026, with an approximate budget of $70,000 for Fiscal Year 2027.

UNM justifies the sole source procurement based on Quickstart Learning's unique capabilities and business model compatibility with UNM Continuing Education's operations. The vendor offers a favorable 70% Quickstart Learning/30% UNM revenue split, compared to competitors demanding 90/10 splits, and provides marketing support by writing content for UNM's approval and distributing through their own channels to expand reach. During due diligence, UNM contacted alternative vendors including Simpli Learn (pricing higher at $1,000 more per course with unfavorable revenue terms and negative market reputation), Data Science Dojo (current partner but lacking comprehensive front-end and back-end coding depth), and Propulsion Academy (based in Switzerland with prohibitive time zone administration challenges). UNM determined that other evaluated vendors primarily offered self-paced training options that did not meet departmental requirements for live instruction and personalized support.

Quickstart Learning's unique capabilities are related to how they market the program to New Mexico communities.

They write the marketing content and provide to CEs marketing team for approval. Then, they send out through their channels, which increases our reach. The revenue split is unique in that it is 70 QL/30 UNM, and other companies want 90/10.

Describe the due diligence made to locate other possible sources including communications with other universities, communications with similar providers, web searches, yellow page searches, review of advertisements and trade publications, etc.

List the other vendors who were contacted. Please describe the specs/qualifications/criteria that the other vendors were unable to satisfy.

CE was approached by Quickstart learning. We met with their CEO and Business Development Officer on several occasions. CE researched their company and spoke to references. In that research, CE reached out to similar training companies (see below) for the same type of training. After reviewing their programs and business model, it was determined Quickstart Learning was the best fit for CE's business model and students.

UNMCE received other vendor approaches regarding partnership opportunities, however, they did not meet UNMCE requirements as most were solely self-paced. These kinds of workforce training options are reviewed through contact at conferences and events and customer calls. We also checked other school websites to research additional potential partnerships. Ultimately, UNMCE is open to partnering with any provider who has a responsive and high-quality product similar to Quickstart Learning.

Simpli Learn –was in discussions to possibly add some course. Courses were $1000 more and the revenue split was 90/10, but we will not work with this vendor for any type of bootcamps in the future due to their negative impact in the market.

Data Science Dojo – Current vendor that we partner with on other bootcamps, they don’t offer front and back end coding in depth at present.

Propulsion Academy – based in Switzerland and the time zone difference makes the administration too difficult.
