QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:
1. Recommend Hubbell fiber cable instead of corning PN: HFCH5024BKS. Huber offers a 25-year warranty on cable and connectors while Corning does not unless it’s installed by Corning technicians. Reference Crown CI Fiber installation at LBB.
As long as it meets the same specifications this is approved.
2. Are we installing 2 – 24 strand or a 96 and
144? Specs PG 5 item E, Specs PG 176 item A.
We are installing 2-24 strand cable.
3. Can we pull fiber cable with breakaway swivel instead of blowing? Blowing fiber is usually for long runs over a mile and increases labor costs.
Yes, fiber can be pulled.
4. Fiber Connector housings are not specified.
Are they being mounted in the Demarcation box or in the rack?
RTR B termination will be a rack mounted box, RTR
D will be a wall mounted rack.
5. What termination method is required for fiber
(fusion splice, cam type, epoxy)?
Fusion Splice.
6. Can we use corrugated innerduct instead of smooth wall innerduct? Smooth wall requires more labor personnel.
Yes, corrugated is approved for use.
7. Are we installing 4”x4” square duct under the ladder rack? (Drawings pg 15)

If you are referring to the opening at the top of the box for the cables please make that 4”x12”.
8. Are both cables being terminated in the 13R
LOC?
All cables will be terminated in RTRB and RTRD.
A copper spur will be run by you, the contractor, from 13 LOC to RTR B.
9. Are we installing 2 innerducts in each conduit? (drawings pg 16) or 4(drawings pg 11).
3 or 4,1’’ inner duct is acceptable in each conduit.
10. Will an FAA escort be provided full time or will we need to get SAT airport badges?
You are responsible for your escorts. Our COR/RE will provide support but it will be the contractor’s responsibility.
11. SOW conflict; 2w4 or 4w4 duct bank; concrete or not; " ALL PVC to be sch 80. Does this include Concrete Encased Ducts?
Duct bank should all be concrete encased schedule
80. Only the duct that goes into the 13LOC will be a 2w4 duct bank, the rest will be 4w4.
12. Detail 1 shows new 4-4" Sch 80 PVC routing under the shelter foundation and into the building. Please provide a foundation detail of the existing foundation and floor system at this location for both shelters.
Airport requested sch. 80 to match their existing duct bank design.
13. Plan Notes refer to a PRE BID SITE VISIT.
However, with travel restrictions please provide some photos of the cable route and the interior of shelters?
Attached at the end of this amendment is the
Engineering Trip Report which includes photographs for your use. See Pages 6 through 15.

14. Where is entrance to RTR D? Not show on plan like RTR B?
Conduit entrance should be through the South West short wall.
15. Detail 2 on CO13 calls for PVC Coated GRS conduit under pavement, however, call outs on
C006 call for directional bores to be Sch 80 HDPE.
Anything under pavement and swells should be HDPE schedule 80 bores. no road work is permitted on the airport.
16. Span shown on C03 from MH 2 to MH 3 is 1626
LF and in excess of 1200 ft MAX called out in
NOTE 6 on same page. Should we include a 4th new manhole in our proposal?
No keep the distance at 1200’ and the last manhole should be adjusted accordingly.
17. Shows two of four MH as existing (#1 & #2) but SOW calls for 3 NEW MH.; Please Clarify.
MH #0 and #1 will be installed by a different contractor, one contracted out by the city of San
Antonio.
18. What are work hours allowed each day?
You determine the schedule our COR/RE will match it (day hours are permitted and overtime is permitted for our CORs/REs).
19. How many days per week are we allowed to work?
That is up to you (the contractor makes the schedule and our COR/RE matches it).
20. How much of the trench on the job should be bid as Hydro VAC and how much as Back Hoe
Excavation? No existing utilities are shown on the project plans so do not know how close this route is to other utilities.
It is the contractor's responsibility to have a third party and locate all utilities. Locals will find the airports cables and a second locate will have to be done by the contractor.

Hydro-trenching is required only around cables, utilities and inside the RTR and LOC plots.
Everything else is excavation.
21. Erosion Control Note 1, G003 states "shall be provided on the RE's requirements". Can we get a quantity on this please? Often they provide a plan sheet with this on it and it could be the full length of the project.
As long as you maintain positive drainage and prevent the roads from getting full of sediment, you will be ok. No need for drawings.
ENGINEERING TRIP REPORT
SAN ANTONIO – FOTS

Site Manager: DAN DAVIS/MANAGER/210-805-5543 Site Personnel: ZACARIAS ALONSO
F&E Engineer: RAFAEL SILVA/CIVIL ENGINEER/817-222-4110
Date of visit: 07/11/2019 Ref. JCN: 1705921
II. Executive Summary We will be installing approximately 3000 linear feet of new conduit and 3 aircraft rated manholes from SAT RTR B to SAT RTR D. Additionally there will be a conduit run that will connect manhole #2 to LOC 13R shelter. Contractor will also do perforations in to both buildings (RTR B and RTR D) and installing 3 demark boxes, 1 in RTR B and 2 in RTR D. Conduit will have to conform to 19F and the FOTS installation handbook specifications.
III. Background Phase I in installing FOTS loop in SAT. The city of San Antonio will do construction and installation of conduit from ATCT to RTR B, and we will pick up conduit from RTR B and run it to RTR D.
IV. Findings & Observations
RTR B is a very old building and it appears as if it could contain asbestos material.
Space is very limited in RTR B.
FAA contractors have already installed some conduit and a manhole that tie onto LOC 13R and our job is to tie into the manhole located South East from the LOC shelter.
The proposed conduit run will cross a water swell, and 3 roads. This will require extra depth in the excavation as per FAA order 1391D and will also require the underground boring in those locations. Any underground installations should be HDPE schedule 80 conduit.

• Install one demark box in RTR B
• Install 2 demark boxes in RTR D
• Hydro-excavate near cables, utilities and inside RTR plots.
• Underground boring needed for road and swell crossings
• Provide construction and installation for approximately 3000 linear feet of fiber optics concrete encased duct bank.
• Provide grounding for the entire concrete duct and newly installed boxes.
