1. Although we could not verify the depth of the PIV valve. It appears to be approximately 10’ below grade. Should all bidders assume that depth for excavaon purposes?

a. Yes, bidders shall assume a 8’ depth.

2. Due to the depth of the excavaon required to access the PIV valve, some of the sidewalks will need to be demoed. Will you provide a detail/specificaon for new sidewalk construcon (strength of concrete, reinforcement, etc.) & gravel base requirements?

For the PIV valve replacement, the Contractor must install traffic barriers to direct any pedestrians around excavation and backfill areas.

New sidewalk:

1. New sidewalk must match elevaon, sloping, expansion/contracon joints of exisng sidewalk.

2. If the sidewalk is cut at an expansion joint, epoxy dowel quanty 3 #4 deformed grade

60 rebar 6” from the edges along the cross secon of the sidewalk at equal spacing to bond new sidewalk to exisng sidewalk.

3. Below is a detail for expansion and contracon joint. Restore new sidewalk to match exisng.

4. Concrete mix shall be standard, normal weight, freeze thaw resistant 4,000 psi mix.

Slump must be 4”. Air entrainment must be 5-7%. Aggregates must be well graded with max ¾”. Thickness on concrete shall be 6” to match exisng. Place concrete in accordance with ACI 301. Follow temperatures curing requirements in ACI 305 and ACI

306. Tool edges to match exisng.

5. Formwork shall be used and reinforced to create a sidewalk with a consistent and straight edge.

6. Reinforce sidewalk with WWF 6x6 W2.9 x W2.0.

7. Use exisng fill and compact to 95% density.

3.6 CURING AND PROTECTION

A. Immediately after placement, protect concrete from premature drying, excessively hot or cold temperatures and mechanical injury.

B. Cure concrete following the recommendations of ACI 301 and 308, "Standard Practice for Curing Concrete".

3.7 PATCHING OF CONCRETE SURFACES

A. Formed surfaces: Patch all honeycombs and other imperfections immediately after removing forms while concrete is still green, as follows:

1. Finish No. 1 (Concealed Below Grade Concrete): Patch all form tie holes, aggregate pockets, honeycomb and defective areas as required with patching and surfacing compound.

2. Finish No. 2 (Exposed Above Grade Concrete): Patch aggregate pockets, honeycomb and other defective areas with patching and surfacing compound, mixing white or normal cement as necessary to match existing surface color as closely as possible.

3. Are we to assume the excavated material is suitable for backfill aer the replacement of the PIV? Any compacon requirements, etc.?

a. Yes the exisng material is suitable for fill.

Compacon Requirements:

EARTH MOVING 31 20 00

1. Do not place backfill or fill soil material on surfaces that are muddy, frozen, or contain frost or ice.

3.9 SOIL MOISTURE CONTROL

A. Uniformly moisten or aerate sub-grade and each subsequent fill or backfill soil layer before compaction to within two (2) percent of optimum moisture content.

3.10 COMPACTION OF SOIL BACKFILLS AND FILLS

A. Place backfill and fill soil materials in layers not more than eight (8) inches in loose depth for material compacted by heavy compaction equipment, and not more than four (4) inches in loose depth for material compacted by hand-operated tampers.

B. Place backfill and fill soil materials evenly on all sides of structures to required elevations, and uniformly along the full length of each structure.

C. Compact soil materials to not less than the following percentages of maximum dry unit weight according to ASTM D 698 “Standard Proctor”:

1. Under walkways, scarify and re-compact top 6 inches below sub-grade and compact each layer of backfill or fill soil material at 95 percent.

4. Can the excavated material be temporarily stored on site unl it can be backfilled?

a. Yes. The contractor must communicate to the FAA on any needed parking areas/spaces.

5. Can you provide floor plans with dimensions of rooms receiving new flooring (Smoke Room & Mechanical Room)?

a. Yes base building floor plan provided.

6. In the Mechanical there is a wood ramp. What happens with this? How does the epoxy floor coordinate with it?

a. Keep the wood ramp and epoxy around it.

7. In room we are providing new flooring, will all furniture, etc. be removed by the owner prior to our work in these areas?

a. FAA will remove the furniture.

b. Contractor must coordinate with FAA for temporarily relocang or working around the runway monitoring equipment on the 2nd floor elevator landing as referenced in the Flooring Install secon in the SOW.

8. Who is the security company provided by the owner?

a. FAA CMC 855 801 6191. KBR.

9. Are the ceilings in the stairwells to be painted?

a. Not required.

10. Is the underside of the exposed stairs/landings to be painted?

a. Not required.

11. Are the elevator doors & frames to be painted (at least 1 has an aviaon design on it)?

a. All except the 1st floor and Sub-Juncon they have vinyl wraps on the doors.

12. Are the metal heang covers, sprinkler piping, etc. to be painted?

a. Not required.

13. Can you clarify what exactly needs to be tested for ACM or specify an allowance all bidders should carry? The specs call to test at all areas of work, but it needs to be clarified or quanfied.

a. Contractor shall hire a licensed asbestos testing company to test for asbestos at areas of demolition such as flooring demolition and sheet-rock demolition.

b. The exterior doors are assumed to be ACM. See General Scope of Work.

14. Will there be room on site for an office trailer?

a. Yes but the trailer may need to be placed in the FAA auxiliary parking lot. The FAA auxiliary parking lot is outside the security fence but there is a walkway with a pedestrian gate.
