WST RTR shelter replacement Clarification – 01
We have the following questions as they relate to the Power Cable Routing diagram on Dwg. E003 along with associated Note 6.
The diagram shows (1) conduit identified as “existing” and (1) conduit identified as “Existing ASOS Power Feed” running from the new handhole to the existing precast concrete shelter.
a.) Are both of these conduits existing?
b.) Why is one conduit shown as a dashed line while the other conduit is shown as a solid line?
Answer: There is an existing power cable that feeds the existing building and an existing power cable where the existing building feeds the ASOS equipment on the airfield. The dash line represent the building power cable and the solid line represent the ASOS power line. Below is a change to the drawing E003 detail E. The ASOS feed from the existing building goes from a disconnect on the existing building to the ASOS equipment. In order for the new building to power the ASOS equipment, a new cables will have to run from the contractor provided 30 Amp HD disconnect as shown on E/E003 detail to the new handhole label power splice, turn and land in the new handhole (new requirement) below the existing disconnect for the ASOS power. The ASOS power cable will be splice in the handhole to connect to the new cable. Note 8 below provides more details
The diagram shows (2) conduits running from the new handhole to the new 10’ X 16’ Shelter. (1) conduit turns up into a 30A, HD, Non-Fused Disconnect Switch located on the exterior of the shelter and the other terminates at a new 100A, 240V, 2P Fused Switch located inside of the shelter.
a.) Why is one conduit shown as a dashed line while the other conduit is shown as a solid line?
b.) Assuming that both of these conduits are run underground why are they both not shown in the Section F Trench Detail?
Answer: See question 1 for details and for b.) both conduits can run in the same trench and detail F should have both ASOS and building power conduits runs.
The One Line Diagram shown on Dwg. E001 shows conduit “P1” as being a 2” conduit originating at the existing shelter and terminating at a 100A double throw switch inside of the new shelter.
a.) Is this conduit one of the two that I have referenced in Question #2 above? Yes, it is the power feed to the building.
b.) If so, does it terminate at a double throw switch or a 100A disconnect.? Yes, that is terminated in the 100 A disconnect inside the building.
4) The Conduit and Cable Schedule shown on Dwg. E001 shows conduit “P1” as containing (3) #1 and (1) #6 conductors. Note 1 of the One Line Diagram Notes on Dwg. E001 states “Provide and install new facility feeders from the existing shelter, conductors shall be sized 3/0 AWG (Qty. 3) with #6 green ground. Install new conduit, minimum 2” GRSC.
a.) Please clarify. The correct cable size is (3) #1 and (1) #6
5) The “Work Area Detail” shown on Dwg. C001 shows a dashed line running from the existing electric vault to what appears to be a riser pole. The notation for this dashed line states “Locate and mark prior to trenching for power to site.”
a.) Please provide the conduit and wire size associated with this notation as well as further clarification regarding the required connections at both ends.
Answer: This drawing is a depiction of conduits that may be in the area and needs to be avoided for any trenching. No connection to that feed is required
Note 3 on sheet C002 states all material no shown on the furnished material list is to be furnished by the contractor. Please clarify if the material list on sheet A002 is the complete list of GFM or are the lists on Sheet A003 are also being provided GFM except where noted otherwise.
Answer: All materials on A002 and A003 shall be GFM except as noted on the sheet. Change note 4 on A003 to 4) Install government provide ASOS exhaust.
The part below will be provided to the contractor. It shall be installed on a field sited location. Contractor shall provide a 1/2” opening through to the inside of the building for a flexible hose to go through. The FAA shall connect to the ASOS equipment.
Please clarify if the new shelter will come fully assembled with all items on sheet A002 pre-installed.
Answer: All items on A002 are preinstalled and fully assembled. Contractor shall off load entire assembly onto the foundation.
The new shelter is being placed SW of the existing lower. Note 10 on sheet S001 states lo chip off 12' of existing Sonotubes, dowel, and tie into new concrete pad. The beacon lower is erected in asphalt parking lot and nothing appears to be sitting to its SW. Please clarify if there is an existing foundation beneath the asphalt or if the note on S001 does not apply. If the note does not apply, please provide a rebar design for the Sonotubes Answer: That is correct. There is no existing Sonotubes and 4 Sonotube will have to be installed. See below for correct detail B/S001
Please clarify if the existing shelter is to be demolished after the new shelter is installed.
Answer: Existing shelter shall be demolish and disposed after cutover.
Please clarify if the asphalt will be completely removed and replaced with compacted material within the boundary of the new fence line.
Answer: Asphalt shall be removed from within the fence line of the new shelter and replace with compacted material.
Can you advise if there is any temp fence needed on this project?
Answer: No temporary fencing is required but warning barricade, signs or marking is required for safety of the public driving in the parking lot. See section 01500 of the specifications for specific language. Temporary fencing can be installed with approval from COR if the contractor requires this for security of their materials.
