Questions and Answers
NOTICE ID: 6913G621Q300056
1) Are the poles supposed to be delivered fully assembled?
a. YES
2) What is the total overall length of the 8" pipe?
The sketch shows the 8" pipe sliding into the 10" pipe, but doesn't show how far in it should go.
a. Overall length of the 8” pipe is 13’, that’s a 12” insert into the 10” pipe. The winning bidder should provide their assembly for Government review.
3) How is the 8" pipe supposed to be held in place where it slides into the 10"? By welding?
a. The joint can be swaged and then welded. If there is another method to assemble this pole, please send us that information.
4) The "fit" of the 8" inside the 10" will be very loose - almost .700" of spacing on each side - not very secure, how do we handle this?
a. There are different methods that can be used to fabricate this pole; 1. The 10” pipe could be swaged to a smaller diameter to accept the 8” pipe. OR Similar to the ground sleeve, a 5/8” thick x 14” long steel plate can be welded to the end of the 8” pole and then inserted into the 10” pole and that assembly can be final welded. (10” pole to the 5/8” steel plate) - Either way, the winning bidder should provide their assembly method for Government review.
5) Is the "ground sleeve" supposed to be attached to the outside of the 10"?
a. Yes.
6) How do we secure the "ground sleeve"? By welding?
a. The ground sleeve should be attached using a fillet weld top and bottom. The winning bidder should provide their assembly method for Government review.
7) What material is to be used for the "ground sleeve"? The text describes it as a "corrosion collar" - what does this mean?
Is mild carbon steel ok to use?
a. Yes, mild steel plate, rolled to fit around the 10” pipe is acceptable.
8) Can the "ground sleeve" be made from plate? Or tube? You show no specific size or any info other than it is 1/2" thick.
a. A ½” thick tube or a rolled ½” sheet steel both are acceptable. Either way, the winning bidder should provide their assembly method for Government review.
9) Relative to whether each pole has to be delivered fully assembled, can individual sections of the pole be coated before final assembly?
a. Poles to be delivered fully assembled and preserved (painted). If you want to blast and paint each individual section prior to assembly, we have no issues with that. The disturbed areas will need to be re-preserved. Either way, the winning bidder should provide their assembly method for Government review.
Another option would be to use a concentric reducer, these are available to join 10” and 8” pipes (photo and link are attached). However, this option will be an “or equal” solution.
