About this file
This is a Material Ordering Data document for MIL-DTL-1222, specifying requirements for high-reliability fasteners intended for general, high-temperature, high-strength, and corrosive environment applications. The document pertains to the acquisition of commercial off-the-shelf fasteners with added inspections, selected for diverse applications including elevated temperatures, immersion in seawater, salt air/marine environments, high preloads, and high shock loadings.
The specific fastener being procured is a hex socket cap screw with the following specifications: Type II, Grade 500 (GR-500), size 2.250-4.5 UNRC with 9.000 inch length, thread series 4.5UNRC-3A, and Nickel-Aluminum (NICUAL) material composition. The procurement references MIL-DTL-1222J dated 08 DEC 2020 and is subject to NSTM S9086-CJ-STM010 Chapter 75 Revision 5, which mandates this specification for all K-monel socket head capscrews. Cut or ground threads are not permitted. Level I alloy steel socket head capscrews shall be marked "A574," with "STM" marking also acceptable per naval standards. Chemical analysis and mechanical property test results are required, while decarburization and magnetic permeability testing are not required. The part number designation is 21/4C9SHCSK500, prepared by Wayne Booher under code C/127.2.
