About this file

This is an Invitation for Bid Addendum #1 from the California Department of Transportation - Division of Equipment, with solicitation number 32-12-6058. The document contains questions and answers regarding technical specifications for what appears to be a trash compactor vehicle procurement. The bid due date is February 18, 2016, at 2:00 PM, with bid opening at 2:15 PM.

The addendum addresses four specific technical questions regarding the vehicle specifications, including: tank volume requirements (minimum 300 gallons water volume capacity is required), New Way body/chassis requirements, exhaust stack configuration (vertical position required, with allowance for connecting horizontal muffler via flex pipe to dummy vertical stack), and fuel system capacity clarifications. For specific tank capacity information, bidders are directed to refer to Hexagon Lincoln's website for volume type comparisons.

ADDENDUM # 1 QUESTION AND ANSWERS

1. Question: It states 300 water volumes which breaks down to 87 DGE. If we could use (5)

17 x 85 we get 299 gallons, 1 gallon short. Would this suffice?

Answer: No, specifications state “The tanks shall have a minimum total water volume capacity of 300 gallons.

2. Question: Which New Way body (Chassis) will be required?

Answer: Contact New Way for compatible body that conforms to Technical

Specifications for Trash Compactor Body Section 2 Body Requirements

3. Question: #7 Exhaust. They are asking for a vertical stack exhaust. In speaking to

Freightliner I am not able to get a vertical stack. We can only do horizontal muffler and tailpipe. Will this be acceptable?

Answer: No, specifications state “the exhaust stack or stacks shall be mounted in a vertical position….” Connecting existing horizontal muffler and tail pipe via flex pipe to a dummy vertical stack with the manufacturers recommended heat shield is acceptable.

4. Question: #18 Fuel System. We need to know what DGE tank capacity you are looking for. It is not stated anywhere.

Answer: Specifications state “The tanks shall have a minimum total water volume capacity of 300 gallons.” Please refer to http://www.hexagonlincoln.com/product-lines/tuffshell/tuffshell-specifications for comparison of volume types.
