The intent is to professionally develop, fabricate and install a USTRANSCOM graphic display on the 8th Corridor within the Pentagon building. This display will replace a command display that is currently installed in the Pentagon. The display will utilize pictures, captions, and organizational symbols to depict the command’s Unified Command Plan responsibilities, its assigned subordinate commands and the command’s associated capabilities. Attachments 1 through 4 contain a draft concept of the display with initial specifications developed during the design process.
The display will consist of three panels connected end-to-end and enclosed in a frame of brushed aluminum material. The overall dimensions of the display are 17 feet long by 5 feet high, made up of the two smaller panels (4 feet long by 5 feet high) attached on either side of a central panel (9 feet long by 5 feet high). Once assembled in the Pentagon, the display will mount to the interior wall utilizing toggle bolts and be easily transferable to an alternate location within the building if required later.
The general concept for display construction includes pictures, captions, and symbols provided by USTRANSCOM and then recreated in full color Duraflex (or similar material) applied to non-glare, UV protected, Plexiglas and mounted to Medium Density Overlay (MDO) board. Corner bolts will be utilized to provide stand-off for various pictures, symbols, etc. The Government will provide all high-resolution, camera-ready images to be used in the display. Additionally, the design concept provide by the Government will include all required text (the font can be provided by USTRANSCOM upon request). The display shall not include an independent light source.
As assembled and installed, the display will not protrude over 4 inches from the wall and will not obstruct electrical outlets, fire sprinkler system, etc., per Pentagon building regulations. Any foam plastic material utilized in fabrication of the display must comply with IBC 2018, Section 402.6.4 in that the material will: 1) have a maximum HRR of 150 kW when tested in accordance with UL 1975 (or when tested in accordance with NFPA 289 using 20kW ignition source), 2) have not less than 20 pcf in density, and 3) have thickness of 0.5 in. or less.
The display will be of modular design/construction allowing for ease of updating photos and captions as required at later dates.
