About this file

This is a technical specification document issued by the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) - Infrastructure Services Division for the procurement of direct buried aluminum street lighting pole assemblies. The specification establishes minimum requirements for round, tapered aluminum poles available in four heights: 15 feet, 22 feet, 26 feet, and 31 feet, with mounting capabilities for fixtures, arms, and banners. The poles must be complete assemblies including shaft, pole cap, hardware, and base coating, conforming to City of Milwaukee drawings dated 2009 through 2022. All components, including screws and fasteners, must be stainless steel or approved equivalent materials. The specification requires vendors to provide cut sheets and shop drawings within three working days of request or face bid rejection, and allows for minor design deviations only with written approval from the Purchasing Division and DPW-Infrastructure Services Division.

The warranty obligation requires the seller and/or manufacturer to guarantee merchantable quality for one year from installation, not to exceed two years from delivery, with repair, replacement, freight, and removal/reinstallation costs covered at no charge to the City. The 26-foot poles must support fifty-pound fixtures with double banners totaling twenty square feet mounted at 18 feet above grade, and all assemblies must meet AASHTO standard specifications for 90 MPH wind loads. Engineering calculations prepared and sealed by a Wisconsin-licensed engineer must be submitted within 30 days of bid award. All welding must comply with ASME standards, and packaging must protect poles during six months of storage and transit via open-side trucks suitable for forklift unloading. Deliveries are made to 1540 W. Canal Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53223, between 9:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M., with 24 hours advance notice required.
