About this file
This document is a Scope of Work for the Kane Creek Phase 2 Project, involving the Abandoned Mine Reclamation Project (AMRP) in San Juan County, Utah, spanning Lower Kane Creek, Upper Kane Creek, and Brumley Ridge Mining Districts. The project aims to close 140 hazardous mine features/openings across privately-owned, Trust Lands Administration (TLA), and US Forest Service lands, with a detailed closure plan including 43 backfills, 35 walls (stone/block), 58 grates (adit/shaft), and 4 bat gates. A mandatory site visit is scheduled for September 3rd, 2025, at 8:00 AM MST in Moab, with construction planned from October 6th to December 20th, 2025.
The estimated project cost is $700,000, with potential adjustments pending right-of-entry agreements with TLA and private landowners. The project follows Phase 1, which previously closed 77 mine features on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands. The final number and type of closures may be modified based on landowner preferences, potentially including the option of no closures on specific properties. The project is part of a comprehensive effort to address 228 open uranium mines identified in the Kane Creek Project area, focusing on environmental remediation and safety mitigation in the mining districts.
