About this file
This requirements document details specifications for engine inlet covers needed by the 55th Maintenance Group (55 MXG) for their C-135 variant aircraft fleet. The requirement encompasses two distinct aircraft types: Cobra Ball (3 aircraft) and Combat Sent (2 aircraft).
For Cobra Ball aircraft (tail numbers 61-2662, 61-2663, and 62-4128), each requires 4 blue engine inlet covers with specific dimensions of 78 inches in diameter and 7-inch attachment flanges. These covers must feature the Cobra Ball insignia, tail numbers, and "COBRA BALL" text in white letters. For Combat Sent aircraft (tail numbers 64-4847 and 64-4849), each requires 4 black engine inlet covers with identical dimensions but featuring the Combat Sent insignia and the text "MANY ARE CALLED....FEW ARE SENT" in red letters. All covers must be tambourine-type with 2-way collapsible padded 1-inch metal tubing, include a perforated center square (31" x 33") for laminar airflow, and come with storage bags. The related sources sought notice indicates this is for market research purposes, with potential formal solicitation to follow.
