About this file
This document is the FAR clause 52.211-6 "Brand Name or Equal" which provides guidelines for how offerors can propose "equal" products in response to a solicitation that specifies a brand name item. The key details are:
The solicitation will identify products by "brand name or equal", and the purchase description will specify the salient physical, functional, or performance characteristics required. To be considered, offers of "equal" products must meet the specified characteristics, clearly identify the product, provide descriptive literature, and describe any modifications the offeror plans to make. The Contracting Officer will evaluate "equal" products based on the information provided by the offeror. If the offeror does not clearly indicate an "equal" product is being offered, the offeror must provide the brand name product referenced in the solicitation.
