STATEMENT OF WORK

Construction Services: Upgrade Building One Sanitary Riser

PROJECT # 673-21-154

Completion by 365 days after notice to proceed

The James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, Florida has initiated a project to replace and upgrade the existing Sanitary Riser #5 in Building #1. This project comes as a result of the current sanitary system, which dates back to the 1970s, reaching the end of its useful life and beginning to fail. The hospital administration has recognized the urgency of this matter and is taking proactive measures to mitigate any potential risks associated with the outdated system.

This renovation project is the first of a series of projects aimed at replacing and upgrading all the sanitary systems in the hospital. The hospital administration believes that these renovations will significantly improve the overall health and safety of the patients and staff, while also reducing the maintenance and repair costs associated with the current system. The project is expected to be completed within a reasonable timeline and with minimal disruption to the hospital's operations.

Plumbing A. General Scope:

1. The plumbing design will provide a design solution to replace the hospital sanitary riser #5.

2. The design will include demolition, new work, and phasing drawings for the sanitary riser replacement.

B. Existing Conditions

1. The vertical portion of sanitary riser #5 is located outside of stair #2. The sanitary piping runs in walls in electrical rooms, the canteen area, bathrooms, and an exam room. To replace the sanitary riser walls and ceilings in these areas will be significantly impacted. This impact includes but is not limited to:

a. Demolition and replacement of drywall

b. Demolition and replacement of tiled bathroom walls

c. Possible replacement of acoustical tiled ceilings in areas

d. For work done in electrical rooms, there may be a need for temporary supports of conduits, and other pieces of electrical equipment.

2. No fire piping or mechanical ductwork relocation is expected to be required, but some sprinkler removal and replacement will be required. As well as temporary support of fire protection devices such as strobes.

3. Areas of possible asbestos containing material have been previously mapped and riser replacement will require work in some of these areas, especially on the second floor.

C. Design Requirements:

1. Provide Plumbing system design for riser #5 of the sanitary sewer, sanitary vent system at VAMC in Tampa, Florida.

2. Provide low water consumption flush valves.

3. Design documents and other deliverables are to be provided as required by the contract. Deliverables, such as construction drawings, construction specifications, and design narrative will be prepared and provided as part of the design effort, whereas other deliverables, such as construction cost estimates, operation and maintenance manuals, and as-built drawings will be provided as part of the construction effort.

4. The scope includes:

a. Replacing vent piping in the same chase as the riser being replaced.

b. Replacement of water closet flush valves in bathrooms where riser replacement is taking place.

c. Replacement sink traps and associated ADA insulation in bathrooms where riser replacement is taking place.

d. Replacement of the horizontal sanitary main from riser #5 to the exterior of the building (all the way to the first manhole).

e. No wall mounted water closets are located on walls that will be impacted by this work, so none are set to be replaced at this time.

5. Proposed Design Solution:

a. The design will involve placement of a new 8” sewer trunk line routed in the same location as the existing 8” sewer. The tie ins for branches and manhole connection will be made during evening outage tie-ins. Connections will be made by placing a basin and pump at the sewer connection locations to pump waste in a bypass downstream to allow for connections to be made.

b. Vertical riser replacement will involve placement of a sanitary riser line in the same location as the existing riser. This replacement and the tie ins for branches will be made during evening outage tie-ins.

D. Applicable Codes and Standards:

1. As a minimum, the plumbing system will be designed to meet the requirements of the following codes and standards:

a. Department of Veterans Affairs Plumbing Design Manual (PG-18-10).

b. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical/Surgical Inpatient Units and Intensive Care Nursing Unit Design Guide (PG-18-13).

c. NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Handbook.

b. Fixture traps shall be cast copper alloy with ADA-compliant insulation.

F. Material:

1. Sanitary sewer, and vent piping systems below grade shall be service weight cast iron, hub & spigot with compression gaskets.

2. Sanitary sewer, and vent piping systems above grade shall be service weight cast iron, no-hub with heavy-duty CISPI couplings.

Electrical

A. General Scope:

1. The electrical design will be the removal of the existing vanity light fixtures in the bathrooms that are affected by the plumbing riser replacement.

2. A new LED light fixture will replace the demolished light fixture. The light fixture will reuse the existing circuitry and lighting controls.

3. Sanitary riser #5, to be demolished and replaced, runs within the existing electrical room. Temporary supports of the conduits may be needed for the removal.

New light fixtures will be installed in new ceilings.

B. Existing Conditions:

The existing roof and floor structure will not be affected by this project per current planning. The existing doors and frames and door access will remain as is. Some finishes, electrical, plumbing fixtures, and fire protection heads may need to be demolished.
