PACKAGING/PACKING

PACKAGING/PACKING: Each item shall be packaged to provide protection against loss or damage during shipments, handling, and storage, and comply with the latest revision of ASTM D3951 Standard Practice for Commercial Packaging.

MARKING

For civilian destinations - In accordance with FED-STD-123H, dated August 8, 2007. For military destinations - In accordance with MIL-STD-129R, dated February 18, 2014. Bar code marking shall be included for both civilian and military destinations.

PALLETIZATION

PALLETIZATION & PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY

The item(s) shall be packaged and packed to afford adequate protection against physical damage during shipment from the supplier to the first receiving activity. The pack shall comply with the rules and regulations applicable to the mode of transportation. If pallet or skid is used for shipping, it shall be made in accordance with normal industry standards.

In the event a wood pallet or skid is used for shipping, the requirements of GSAM 552.211- 89, Non-Manufactured Wood Packaging Material for Export, shall apply

THE GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION POLICY IS TO SEEK THE HIGHEST

PERCENTAGE OF RECOVERED MATERIAL, INCLUDING POSTCONSUMER RECOVERED

MATERIAL, WHICH IS COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE. PROCUREMENT PREFERENCE WILL

BE GIVEN TO ITEMS WITH THE HIGHEST POST CONSUMER MATERIAL CONTENT

WITHIN REASONABLE COST.

POSTCONSUMER RECOVERED MATERIAL FOR CORRUGATED CONTAINERS:

For containers rated < 300 psi: The contractor shall certify that the Corrugated Containers shall contain a range of 25 - 50% recovered fiber, including a minimum range of 25 - 50% postconsumer fiber.

For containers rated 300 psi and above: The contractor shall certify that the Corrugated Containers shall contain a range of 25 - 30% recovered fiber, including a range of 25 - 30% postconsumer fiber.

The recovered fiber and postconsumer fiber content is calculated from the content of each component relative to the weight each contributes to the total weight of the box. Sample calculations may be found at:

Postconsumer fiber is defined in accordance with EPA Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines, which may be found at:

PCRM content shall be by weight as defined in 40 CFR, Part 247 for fiberboard. The contractor shall submit evidence in writing from the mills to confirm the percent by weight of the post consumer recovered material content. The Government reserves the right to verify the accuracy of the certification by reviewing relevant production and/or supplier records.

The following statement shall be printed on the outside of each box on the bottom panel:

"The fiberboard used in manufacturing this box contains a minimum of X% recovered fiber, including X% post consumer fiber."

The standard recycling logo shall be printed on the outside of each box on the bottom panel. Size of statement and logo are at the supplier's option.

The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.

Regulatory requirement (Plastic Thermoformed): The contractor shall certify that the product offered shall include a minimum range of 25 -50 percent postconsumer recovered plastic in accordance with the EPA Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines, which may be found at:

QUALITY ASSURANCE

PRODUCT CONFORMANCE. The product provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description. The quality of the product sold to the government shall be equal to or better than the quality of the product sold by the manufacturer in the commercial market. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance.

WORKMANSHIP: The material shall be uniformly fabricated in accordance with good commercial practice, and free from cracks, cuts, holes, chafed spots, or other defects which impair its usefulness. The material shall be free from dirt, contamination, mold release compounds, or other foreign matter.
