About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) for the Pembina Gate Arm Replacement project. The RFI provides clarifications on seven key aspects of the gate arm replacement, including the number of barrier arms (one automated with high and low ticket readers and one manual absconder gate), ticket reader and printer integration requirements, vehicle detection loop reuse, and gate arm model specifications. The contractor will be responsible for providing and installing new high/low ticket readers, printers, and necessary hardware and software to create an operational system. The project involves replacing existing gate arm equipment while reusing some existing infrastructure, such as the concrete island and vehicle detection loops, with a new footing required for the manual absconder gate. The new system will utilize either a bar code or QR code for ticket processing, and the gate arm must be a LiftMaster MAT or an approved equivalent model.

Pembina Gate Arm Replacement RFI
1. Number of Barrier Arms: The SOW references replacing “the existing gate arm controller and gate arm” and mentions high and low gate arm operators. Could you please confirm the total number of barrier arms to be replaced?
A. One (1) automated barrier arm with a high and low ticket reader and one manual absconder gate
2. Ticket Reader / Printer Integration: The SOW specifies integration with existing card readers and ticket printers at multiple booths. Can you confirm whether the contractor is expected to perform installation or integration of the ticket readers and printers, or should we assume only the gate arm hardware replacement?
A. The contractor shall provide and install new hi/lo ticket readers, printers and any required hardware & software required to make an operational system.
3. Vehicle Detection Loops: Should the existing vehicle detection loops be reused, or is the replacement of loops required as part of the project scope?
A. The existing vehicle loops can be reused. The contractor shall verify the existing loops to see if they can be reused.
4. Barrier Arm Model / Breakaway Kits: The specified LiftMaster MAT Heavy Duty DC barrier gate operator is anticipated to be discontinued, and there are known concerns regarding breakaway kits in high wind conditions. Would GSA consider approval of an equivalent model, such as the Parking Pro series with VarioBoom arms, which offers comparable or improved performance and reliability?
A. The SOW states the LiftMaster MAT or approved equal.
5. In addition to the approximately 40’ of curb and gutter, can the existing concrete island be reused?
A. Yes the existing concrete island will be reused.
6. The solicitation mentions footings for the gate arms—please confirm whether these also need to be replaced.
A. A new footing will need to be installed for the manual absconder gate. The existing island will be acceptable for the automatic gate arm.
7. To confirm, the ticket printers are not being replaced just programmed to the new operators.
A. New ticket printers will be provided. The new system will utilize either a bar code or QR code.
