About this file

This document outlines the scope of work for an emergency department HVAC upgrade project at a Veterans Affairs medical facility. The project requires installing a new filtered air exhaust system to provide 12 air changes per hour for two new emergency department isolation rooms, their associated isolation corridor, and one existing exam room being converted to an isolation room. The scope also includes selecting a new 1000 CFM exhaust fan and upgrading existing VAV terminal units to operate in a CAV mode when the isolation rooms are in use. Room airflow requirements, pressure differential specifications, and alarm parameters are defined. The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number 36C25923R0052 for an emergency department entry and lobby remodel issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 19.

Scope of Work:

Provide/Install a new filtered air exhaust system that will provide 12 air changes per hour (ACH) to the two new Emergency Department Airborne Infection Isolation/Waiting (Negative Air) Rooms, their associated Airborne Infection Isolation (Negative Air) Corridor and one existing exam room (A79), to be turned into a third Emergency Department Airborne Infection Isolation/Waiting (Negative Air) Room.

Sequence of Operation:

New Exhaust Fan to operate only when Iso-Rooms are in use:

Areas within SOW are supplied by VAV-16 and 18. Since the new Exhaust fan will only be used in the event the isolation rooms are needed a multimode function is necessary for the spaces within the SOW, Normal and Isolation mode.

Normal Mode: VAV-16 and 18 will operate in a normal VAV heating and cooling mode to maintain zone temperature setpoint with return air back to

AHU-1.

Isolation Mode: VAV-16 and 18 will operate in a CAV mode (Fixed air flow), New exhaust fan will be enabled and return air from Rm. 78,79,A200,A201 and C120 will be isolated, via control damper. A room pressure sensor will monitor the differential pressure between isolation rooms and adjacent non-isolation areas. Differential pressure must be maintained at min -0.01"wc. Each of the five rooms shall have minimum -60cfm, air flow differential between supply and exhaust. TAB contractor shall determine final flow differential for -0.01" pressure differential. Alarm shall be initiated at BMS when the room pressure differential is out of range (neutral or positive) for a time period longer than 10 sec(adj)

Verify existing VAV terminal reheat capacity and controller capabilities, existing VAV must be able to operate as a CV terminal when the Iso-fan is in operation.
