Scope of Work 402-20-676 Renovate Emergency Department Work at the VA Maine Healthcare System Campus located at 1 VA Center, Augusta, ME 04330 to provide a complete construction design package including plans and specifications to renovate and update the existing emergency department.

This project will renovate the existing emergency department to improve patient flow and overall service for the veteran. This will include a designated space for Radiology for emergency radiology procedures. In addition, the renovation will take the first step towards accepting and improving EMS patient deliveries in the Emergency department. This project will increase the size of the emergency department to approximately 10, 245 square feet in building 200E.

Renovation will allow for clinical staff to be co-located for improvements in communication and overall workflow. Improvements in room size and layout will reduce clutter and help to prevent slips and falls within the department. Increase in quantity of rooms will allow more intake of patients including mental health patients. Renovation will supply state of the art multi-purpose patient rooms, fast track rooms for triage/laceration patients to help improve patient wait times, patient monitoring systems for each room, medical gasses, enhanced electrical circuits, cardiac monitoring, and monitored anesthesia will supplied to each patient room.

Construction documents must account for a phased construction of the new emergency department to reduce the impact to patient care.

The design firm must follow all required building codes, standards, and guidelines. This is to include but is not limited to, Chapter 256 Emergency Department and Urgent Care Clinic PG-18-9: Space Planning Criteria (Revised October 3, 2016), VA Master Specifications, VA Barrier free design guide, VA Physical Security & Resiliency Design Manual (October 1, 2020), and the VA Sustainability Design book, as well as and applicable trade design manuals. After the A/E design is completed it is expected to be construction ready, and include all necessary details, drawings, specifications, construction scope, and cost estimate. The period of performance for this work to be completed is 360 days from the issuance of the Notice to Proceed by the contracting officer.
