About this file

This document is a compilation of commonly asked questions for a Crane Operated Rental Service Requirement for the ROSA-3 pedestal upgrade project at Radar 19.14. The questions address critical logistical details including the precise project location (KARS Park Radar at 1300 E Hall Rd, Merritt Island, FL 32953), crane access, and specific lifting requirements. Key technical specifications include a maximum lift height of 35' above ground, with the heaviest lift being a 750-lb "Slip-Ring" assembly. The Statement of Work (SOW) specifies a 35-ton rough terrain crane, with potential vendors cautioned about using alternative crane types due to real estate restrictions. The project suggests SIMS Crane as the preferred vendor with experience at similar radar facilities, emphasizing the importance of proper crane configuration and lift planning for the Eastern Range project.

Commonly Asked Questions for Crane Operated Rental Service Requirement.

1. Precise Project Location: The address currently provided appears to place the location in the middle of the road. Could you kindly provide a more detailed or alternate physical address, or specific coordinates, to help our logistics team coordinate trucking access and provide a more accurate quotation?

a. KARS Park Radar -1300 E Hall Rd Merritt Island, FL 32953

2. Access and Platform Height: Could you confirm the height of the work platform for the pedestal replacement and whether there is sufficient access for the crane to get close to the work area? Our team was unable to locate the exact project site via Google Earth, and this information is critical for proper crane configuration and lift planning.

a. Max height required is 35’. Yes, there is sufficient room for the crane – it will be staged 20’ - 30’ from the antenna.

3. Regarding the RFI for an Operated Crane Rental. Do you have any heights and weights for the loads being lifted?

a. The highest lift will be approximately 35’ above ground where the crane will be staged. The heaviest lift will be an assembly called the “Slip-Ring” weighing 750 lbs. crated.

4. We are currently collecting quotes from crane vendors for the upcoming ROSA-3 pedestal upgrade project at Radar 19.14. The SOW specifies a 35-ton rough terrain crane. One of our vendors has a 40-ton crane available but noted that it is not a rough terrain model.

Can you please confirm if a truck-mounted 40-ton crane would be acceptable for the site, or if a rough terrain crane is strictly required due to ground conditions or access limitations?

a. They typically use a crane that is staged on the ground with extended legs for offer support. I’d be reluctant to say a “40-ton truck crane” would work given the real estate restrictions; reference attached Crane Lift Diagram. SIMS Crane is typically the only vendor I’ve seen working at these radar facilities;
