We will need to know what level of support will be provided by Argonne researchers to develop the manufacturing processes?
Argonne will provide guidance where it has knowledge about the process and on the minimum level of detail needed for the design and cost analysis.
Have these processes already been defined? Or is the expectation to bring in another subject matter expert as an industrial process engineer?
These industrial processes already exist. This design will help Argonne with its analysis of material, energy, and cost implications. No non-ANL subject matter experts will be brought in by Argonne.
Can Argonne assist in the definition of the equipment and the processes required?
The applicant should not rely on Argonne assistance or guidance on process definition.
We realize the researchers at Argonne are the experts and we need to know the level of outside subject matter expertise we need to bring to our team?
No suggestions.
Does Argonne have design goals for the project – ie. State of the art or just a butler building to house the equipment?
The design study should enable the cost analysis for a state-of-the-art product and plant.
Does Argonne have sustainability targets for the project – ie. LEED Gold, Living Building Challenge, etc?
The plant should be compliant with USEPA regulations.
Does Argonne have a site identified on campus for this facility?
No. The applicant may base their design on any location in the US.
Will the firm selected for this feasibility, cost and programming portion of the project be excluded from participating in the design portion of the project? Will Argonne simply work with the same team that is selected for this first portion (feasibility, cost and programming) and move straight into the design of the building?
Argonne will not build a plant. This design is to enable the analysis of the material, energy, and cost needs of such a plant.
We will need a manufacturing partner. If they are non-U.S. based is that allowed?
We would need to be able to work with other firms to do the work.
We have no objection if an applicant needs partners or subcontractors from the US or outside.
