Q1 – Confirm the energy monitoring system by way of measuring the Laundry main electric indirectly incorporates the air utility, eliminating the requirement to separately measure compressed air.
Answer – Yes. The energy monitoring system by way of measuring the Laundry main electric indirectly incorporates the air utility, eliminating the requirement to separately measure compressed air.
Item #12 – Non-Recessed Floor Scales
1. What is the scale platform size required? Note: existing trade-in weigh scales are 48x60
Answer – The size of the scale platform should be the same size as the existing scale 48” X 60”.
2. How many ramps are required with each scale?
Answer – 2
Item #13 – Thermal Fluid Ironing System
1. Para. #13 (p.31) – Visual observation of the mechanical systems including electrical.
Q1 – Typically, the specified clear panels are provided on ironer sides, not front or rear locations (typo?). VA may consider modifying this requirement to manage equipment cost.
Answer – The technical specifications state:
For allowing visual observation of the mechanical systems, install scratch and shatter-proof, clear (for the equipment life expectancy), Lucite side panels / doors on ALL (both the right and left sides, front and rear and including electrical) of the, ironer, and folder in lieu of metal side panels.
Clarification to the technical specifications:
Both the right and left sides of the of the ironer shall have shatter-proof, clear (for the equipment life expectancy), Lucite side panels / doors. This includes the front and rear side cabinets. The intent is not to include the front and rear of each piece of equipment, just the side cabinets front and rear.
2. Para. #26 (p.34) – Totalizing, non-resettable gas meter
Q1 – Confirm meter is to be an in-line multivariable mass vortex-type flow meter.
Answer – Yes. Meter is to be an in-line multivariable mass vortex-type flow meter.
3. Para. #27 & Para. #28 (p.34) Specification reference the offeror is required to ensure optimum combustion conditions for the new ironers.
Q1- What is the minimum required method/means to provide optimum combustion conditions for the new ironers? Past VA installations have required a new insulated/PVC jacketed outside supply air duct with damper extended to the ironer combustion burner assembly; with a motorized damper control interconnected to the ironer control.
Answer – It is required to have new insulated/PVC jacketed outside supply air duct with damper extended to the ironer combustion burner assembly; with a motorized damper control interconnected to the ironer control.
Q2 – What is the minimum design requirement for the new ironer combustion positive pressure vent/flue system? Past VA installations have required pre-fabricated U.L. Listed gas-tight, double wall flue systems having a 304 stainless steel inner liner and an aluminized steel jacket with 1” thick ceramic fiber insulation between the inner and outer jacket and a drain provided to collect condensation and be installed in compliance with VA Construction Specification Section 15400 Breeching, Chimney & Stacks.
Answer – It is required to have pre-fabricated U.L.
4. Para. 8 (p.35) Automatic Linen Inspection and Quality Control Scanning System
Q1 – Is system scanning required for single lane operation (large pieces) or for four lane operation (small pieces)? In past VA projects, single lane scanning was required. Please confirm.
Answer – Only single lane operation is required.
5. How will clean textiles to be finished arrive to ironing system for feeding, discharged from the new clean monorail system into VA carts? (Note: existing feed conveyors are scheduled to be traded-in.)
Answer – The feed conveyors were inadvertently left off the schedule of supplies.
Furnish and install two (2) each flatwork feed conveyors. Conveyors shall have side guards and electric photocells to automatically advance work. Conveyors shall also have a manual mode to allow employees to jog flatwork. Conveyor shall be designed so that employees do not have to walk or move from the loading station to retrieve flatwork or small pieces.
Item #17 – Automated Clean Side Clean Takeaway Conveyor
Q1- Confirm reference to “Blanket Folder System” means the existing Jensen blanket feeder/folder/stacker.
Answer – Reference to “Blanket Folder System” means the existing Jensen blanket feeder/folder/stacker.
Q2 - Is the offeror required to relocate the existing Jensen blanket folder and install/fit-up to the new clean takeaway conveyor and make operational; or will the VA perform this work?
Answer – The offeror is required to relocate the existing Jensen blanket folder and install/fit-up to the new clean takeaway conveyor and make operational.
Q3- Is the offeror required to relocate the existing tying machine and install adjacent to the discharge end of the new accumulating conveyor and make operational; or will the VA perform this work?
Answer – The offeror is required to relocate the existing tying machine and install adjacent to the discharge end of the new accumulating conveyor and make operational
Q4 – Are changes in conveying direction to be accomplished utilizing a power turn conveyor, or can conveyors be butted together?
Answer – Changes in conveying direction must be accomplished utilizing a power turn conveyor.
Q5 – Does system layout proposed require design space for the existing or new clean linen flow rack?
Answer – System layout that’s proposed is required to be designed with space for the existing or new clean linen flow rack
