03/10/22 Project Boundaries - Is this to mean the immediate grassed area around the cemetery? Just verifying that it doesn't extend further into the outer wooded areas. 1.25 acres roughly?
1. Correct, GMP work is within the boundaries of the black wrought iron fence, performing work on existing gravesites. There are no obstructions.
The "Additional Notes" page indicates 425 graves, but on the drawings I count 447 numbered graves with 5 that appear to be for future use and have an "X" through them? Is this correct? This effects time on site estimates which effects pricing.
1. 403 Gravesites that would need to be inspected. The remainder are unoccupied, or occupied where NCA has performed the internment, thus no need for data
1. I should be onsite to guide and instruct on gravesites to be inspected.
Sample and Technical Specs - Is this to mean the spec sheets on the equipment that we'll be using for this project? Do we need to submit all technical data on the equipment and our locating methods?
1. Yes, a spec sheet on the equipment used and the locating methods will help Cemetery staff understand the processes used in this contract.
General Requirements - There is a lot of the items listed in the General Requirements section that appear to be specifically for "Construction". We use only NDT, or Non-Destructive Testing methods in SUE LEVEL "B" GPR studies and do not dig, cut, drill, excavate, or construct anything. Are we to ignore any non-applicable items in this section?
1. We understand that this is a contract to perform GPR studies and that no construction will be performed. Please disregard non-applicable construction items in this section.
There are two major concerns that I have. One is a comment about "Saturated Soils", and the other is related to the "Age of Graves"; primary age concern being the ones that are the oldest. GPR has certain limitations in what type of data it can produce, and how effectively we can answer the government's questions regarding this site. I've included a document explaining the limitations that GPR typically runs into across our industry and includes info about moist subsurface conditions and the negative effect on GPR data ((Refer to Item #3) Low Frequency Antennas). Additionally, burial practices in 1902 were different than those of today and in my experience the data is not always conclusive especially once we account for decomposition. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding limitations as we like to have a firm grasp on the expectations prior to start.
1. Barring any ‘Atmospheric Rivers’ or other type of unusual weather systems for that time of year, the grounds should be ‘dry’, especially with the irrigation turned off; so the GPR work can be performed.
1. The Government’s main objective for this project is based in accordance to the existing burial plot map. We are looking for evidence of previous burials as opposed to vacant plots so they may be used for future burials. Having said that, we do understand there are limitations, which include moisture, high and low frequencies, depth penetration, and data interpretation. We want to make sure that the equipment used along with a seasoned technician will provide the data we are trying to obtain. If a phone call is needed for further discussion, I’m available for conversation today.
