VA Section 508 Remediation Services Questions
QuestionAnswer
Typically as part of the process to be a trusted tester you're required to test and/or remediate not only the document you're given but the documents it may link to as well. Can you confirm we're only responsible for remediating the documents provided as part of the amendment and not any links they may re-direct to?Yes, please remediate the three sample documents only. Linked content is outside the scope of this remediation. However, links themselves must function.
What type of file format(s) does the government request the bidder to return the three sample remediation documents? For example, we can return “sample 1” in (1) native PowerPoint format or (2) native PowerPoint format and PDF.Please remediate and return the document in the native format. Ex. If sample is in pdf, please submit in pdf.
Which Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) formats does the government request for this amendment? For example, WCAG 2.2AA.As stated in PWS, VA adheres to WCAG 2.2 AA.
What is VA’s policy regarding the use of uncommon fonts in PDFs? Should they be embedded or avoided to ensure accessibility? How would VA prefer we address this issue? One approach is to embed the font, re-encode the document, and test it. Another option would be to switch to a more commonly supported default font, though this would alter the visual layout slightlyVA is not preferential to any one font, so long as fonts selected do not yield character encoding issues.
Is there a style guide we should be following?VA.gov content style guide - VA.gov Design System
Does VA/ILEAD require/follow APA for references?Yes, APA for reference formatting. VA Office of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs style guide
