About this file
This document contains questions and answers received in response to a solicitation for a Guest WiFi system for the Iowa City VA Healthcare System. Key details include:
The solicitation is for the installation of new WiFi access points, with no 1-for-1 replacements of existing access points. The government will provide the access point locations, but site visits can be scheduled for further assessment. The cost of the access points must be included in the base year pricing, as the government will not consider modifications to increase pricing post-award. Offerors can include product datasheets outside of page limits. The government currently has Mediacom as the internet service provider and does not have any content filtering in place. No government-furnished equipment will be provided aside from switches, and the existing cabling can be used but may require new pulls for the new access points. The government will identify the main distribution facility and intermediate distribution facilities upon the vendor's arrival. Fiber is not required, as the system runs on coax from Mediacom.

Quesons and answers that were received in response to the solicitaon.
There isn’t a CLIN for the installaon of the new Access Points. Is it the government intenon to provide this CLIN or will the cost need to be accounted for in the Base Year?
The cost of the Access Points should be included in the Base year. Failure to include the cost will not be grounds for a modificaon to increase pricing post-award of the contract.
Are the "desired locaons" for access points limited to only those displayed in Atachment 2 or are there other locaons?
The desired locaons were mostly from the heat maps, but site visits can be scheduled for 04/02/2024.
Are the "desired access points" one for one replacements (swap outs)?
There are no replacement 1 for 1 swaps. The AP’s being installed are all new.
Secon E.1(l) page 3.: Will the Government provide a post-award debriefing to requesng offerors?
We don’t do that under FAR Part 13 acquisions, but an explanaon can be provided.
Can Offerors include product cut sheets/manufacturer data as an Appendix and outside of page limits?
Yes.
SOW Atachment 1. For Locaon 1 (Iowa City VA Healthcare System), is this a replacement of APs in exisng locaons where Atachment 2 heat maps are provided, or a desired expansion?
The heat maps are indicave of addional desired AP's in locaons that have either been added to the hospital or are lacking service.
Please provide heat maps of existing coverage, or identify desired location coverage at the Decorah, Galesburg, Davenport, and Federal Bldg locations.
The AP's are already installed and do not need any adjustments outside of continuing service.
Does the Government have content filtering currently in place? Does the Government have a subscription to a specific provider?
There is no content filtering currently in place on the Guest Wifi. The current provider is Mediacom.
Can the government provide a list of any Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) that will be available throughout the engagement (e.g. firewalls, controllers, etc)?
We only have switches but a switch count is necessary to confirm availability. Everything else is Vendor.
If the Project includes replacing all APs, please provide all documentaon in Q&A for the exisng Guest WiFi system, including but not limited to network design/drawing, infrastructure components such as firewalls, switches, controllers. and access point models with per install locaons? Please include cable interconnecons between buildings.
No AP's will be replaced.
Is all exisng cabling available for use?
Yes, however new AP's will need cable pulled.
If the project includes expanded system coverage:
1. Can the government please provide/update the maps/floor plans to show exact coverage areas desired for cabling purposes?
2. Can the government identify the main computer room (room number) and the main distribution facility (MDF) (room number) in each building?
3. Can the government identify where the MDF/IDFs are located on the floor plan?
4. Please identify the room numbers of the intermediate distribution facilities (IDF) and telephone rooms (TRs) in each building and on each floor.
5. Is there a dropped ceiling in all areas of installation?
6. Is there fiber interconnect available from the intermediate distribution facility (IDF) to serviced buildings?
1. The maps are being included. Due to remodeling and construcon projects in the Hospital the Maps may not be an accurate representaon when AP installaon is scheduled.
2. Basement west 100 for Iowa City is the MDF and a controller is on 5 West 03.
3. We can idenfy them upon vendor arrival.
4. MDF - Basement West 100.
5. Dropped ceilings in all areas.
6. Guest WiFi doesn't run on fiber, it runs on a coax from Mediacom.
If the Project requires the installaon of fiber, what type of fiber is desired (MM, SM, OM3)?
It does not require fiber. It is run through Coax.
Will containment (HEPA) carts be required in any areas?
Not required.
Who is the current Internet Service Provider (ISP)? If multiple providers for differing locations, please identify by location.
Mediacom is the provider.
