Questions and Answers 36C26323Q0304 Des Moines Onsite Dialysis

I have a few questions regarding the dialysis machines used for the VA patients. Is there a specific requirement for the type of machines and equipment to be used? Or is this up to the discretion of the contractor?

The dialysis machines need to meet or exceed Joint Commission, FDA, Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and any regulating bodies for dialysis. I do not have a specified manufacture date, but the onus is on the contractor to provide safe and reliable equipment maintained by their own biomedical staff.

Also, who will provide hemodialysis orders for the patients?

We have a nephrology contract to provide orders. IKP, The Kidney providers will provide HD and PD orders on all patients.

Will Nephrologist be available via call whom the Registered Nurse will contact for orders during treatments?

Yes. There is always an on-call Kidney provider and the HD RN will call if they need orders during treatment.

Approximately how many patients are expected to receive treatments throughout a week?

Overall treatment average is between 3-7.

How many dialysis stations will be available?

All inpatient rooms are dialysis capable and there are two dedicated stations in the CLC. 4 dialysis stations due to storage constraints.
