About this file
This document is a VA Response to Vendor Questions addressing inquiries related to a solicitation for Air Handling Unit (AHU) replacement at VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System's Building 500.
Access, Construction, and MEP Requirements: Contractor personnel must enter through the South loading dock of Building 500, sign in with security daily, and use the center North passenger elevator to access the Penthouse with an A4 key from the Contracting Officer's Representative. No background investigations, badging requirements, or security clearances are required for contractor personnel. Hot work permits must be submitted to Fire/Safety for approval before work begins, with completed permits returned the following day. Existing mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), controls, and as-built drawings are available for contractor review; however, the contractor is not required to provide engineered MEP drawings, shop drawings, or record drawings. The scope requires installation of new condensate pans for each AHU, and condensate overflow safety switches (wet switches) are required. Existing HVAC units are integrated with the building's Fire Life Safety System, fire alarm system, smoke detection system, and smoke control system. Replacement units will require connection, programming, testing, and certification with the existing Fire Life Safety System, and the VA will provide contact information for the existing Fire Life Safety contractor. Structural calculations are not required to verify support capacities for replacement equipment; however, engineered anchorage calculations and seismic restraint calculations are required for this project.
