Text version

The following is a list of questions with answers provided by the Government which have been asked by interested parties on this solicitation for the VASDHS Repair 6th Floor Walk-in Refrigerator. Questions are in black, while answers are in red.

1. In Sec What is the temperature set point and uniformity? Are they all 4°C (39°F) at +/- 2°?

a. All units are medium temperature, between 2°C & 8°C.

2. What type of evaporator coil and finish is preferred? Some rooms have center mount while others have low profile. Also, the finishes range between silver and white. Typically we provide the white finished coils from HeatCraft or Trenton.

a. All coils should be replaced with “like style” units, White finish is acceptable.

3. What thermostat controls are required? We noticed one box has an older Honeywell control on the front, but some don’t (at least from the pics). Do we need certified calibrated devices and RTD’s or are standard electronic thermostats with a minimum range of 1deg differential acceptable?

a. Certified calibrated devices are required.

4. Is Honeywell chart recorder in picture functional? Does it need to be replace or removed?

a. This is non-operational and can be removed.

5. Do any of the cold rooms have corrosive materials or vapors in them? If so what type so we can provide coated coils

a. There are no corrosive chemicals, but they should be adequate for use in a lab.

6. Concerning tools and material. Will tools, carts and materials moving into and out of the work spaces/hospital need to be wrapped and/or covered to be “clean” during movement.

a. Tools and carts do not need to be covered while being transported throughout the hospital, however tools are not allowed to be left in corridors unattended. It is also recommended to have a sticky mat outside the work area as to not leave footprints or wheel marks on the floor.

7. Will there be sufficiency space and support to mount the condensers in the interstitial?

a. Yes, there is sufficient space and support for the new condensers. We are replacing the existing units with the same size.

8. Will there be asbestos covering the I-beams or platforms that are designated for the equipment in the interstitial?

a. The platforms have no asbestos fire proofing on them.

9. If there is asbestos covering the I-beams or platforms will it need to be abated before or during the installation?

a. No asbestos will need to be abated.

10. Will there be a requirement for the contractor to provide a positive pressure environment when working on the 6th floor?

a. If there is a need to construct a containment for the work to keep dust and debris isolated, the containment will need to be under NEGATIVE pressure.

11. Will the contractor be able to remove a small number of ceiling tiles adjacent to the refrigeration units to support installation?

a. Only one (1) tile may be removed a time. Due to the asbestos present above the ceiling this will only be permitted with the use of a VA provided “work cube” that seals the work space.
