U.S. DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS

Network Contracting Office 22 (NCO 22) 4811 Airport Plaza Drive, Suite 600 Long Beach, CA 90815

FBO Notice of Combined Synopsis & Solicitation:

36C26218Q Questions: & Answers

1. How would the government handle these lab specimen in the AP lab normally? Would the contractor provide anything for proper handling of the lab specimen? What kind of cases are these? How many?

The cases in the storage cabinets/drawers in the pictures are designed specifically for cassettes and slides storage for possible retrieval. These specimens often need to be looked at after a few years for continuance of care or for legal purposes. Other boxes make it impossible to retrieve and do not save any space. It is a standard way of storage in AP labs.

Each cassette cabinet is 17" x 9½" x 15".

As of 7/1/2018, Cubic Footage: 612.80 and Number of boxes: 1,114.

2. When the VA makes a service request to recall the information being stored in the vault, what is being handled:

· The whole Stat Lab cabinet if so how much does it weigh (shown in the 1st picture)

· The individual drawer inside the StatLab cabinet

· The slides (green N purple) shown inside the drawer.

Most of the time would be green or purple block (one or a few) and/or slides (on or a few). Less than 1 lb. Almost never a whole cabinet or drawer. One specimen might consist from 1 block to a few. Depends on how big is the specimen. Each block has one or a few corresponding microscopic slides (no any kind of order whatsoever). All blocks stored in these cabinets and slides are stored in similar drawers.

3. Destruction and permanent removal are different services.

The program would need the actual destruction of lab specimen. The permanent withdrawal of lab specimen was to describe the destruction process. There should be about 12 cabinets of blocks and 10 drawers of slides per year (about 10 k specimens) that need to be destroyed, but it hasn’t been done for a few years. Number of specimens is not always proportional to the number of blocks and slides.
