About this file
This document is a technical specification and design package for a 300 kVA Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system intended for healthcare facility applications, specifically OSHPD (California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development) compliance. The drawing set was prepared by CPN Power, Inc. and dated October 4, 2019, with Revision I.
The 300 kVA UPS system is designed to provide continuous power to critical medical equipment including Cath Labs, MRI systems, and CT scanners in healthcare facilities. The system includes a main 300 kVA UPS landing cabinet (55.1"W x 32.7"D x 80.6"H, 2,250 lbs), an optional maintenance bypass cabinet or panel (MBC/MBP), and battery cabinet options. Standard battery backup provides 31 minutes at 75 kVA, 12 minutes at 150 kVA, and 5 minutes at 200 kVA using Enersys 12HX505 or Deka HR5500ET batteries. The UPS generates heat rejection of 40,800 Btu/Hr at 100% load and 19,400 Btu/Hr at 50% load, requiring mechanical cooling to maintain battery temperature below 77°F. Input and output operate at 480V, 3-phase, with 500A main breaker sizing. The system accepts a single 480V source with field-installed jumpers to enable the static bypass circuit. Optional components include a 300 kVA Delta/Wye transformer, isolation transformer, remote status alarm panel (RSAP), and various battery monitoring systems including Modbus TCP/IP and SNMP communications adapters. The UPS operates at 73 dBA @ 1 meter and requires 40 inches minimum front service access with 1-inch side clearance for airflow. The document specifies two proposed OSHPD-compliant room layouts requiring 175-197 inches of width and includes detailed electrical interconnection notes, grounding requirements, and installation specifications for use by electrical contractors and MEP engineers.

NOTE: The battery sizing is based on medical equipment loads. Medical equipment typically draw very low continuous power or fluoro power demands. The equipment will have short bursts in peak power. Therefore, it is common to size battery capacity on a load lower than the UPS capacity. The UPS system is typically operating at the UPS full rating for only several cycles to several seconds maximum.
NOTE: Batteries require a temperature not exceeding 77ºF. Mechanical cooling is required in most areas to accomplish this temperature control.
NOTE: The equipment dimensions and weights are subject to change. Verify information with CPN Power prior to design.
NOTE: Additional Battery Cabinet options are available to meet the project requirements.
Consult CPN Power, Inc. for more details. Common options are different watt per cell battery ratings, front terminal batteries, or premium design battery for longer life.

GROUND WIRE SIZING NOTE:
It is important to size the ground wire per the medical equipment manufacturers recommendation. That wire size is larger than NEC requirements. The ground wire sizing is often parity sized to assure that the ground can pass high frequency noise generated by the medical equipment. High frequency noise travels on the circumference of the wire, therefore requiring the larger ground wire.
WIRING NOTES:
The UPS is designed for dual input. The UPS is commonly operated in the medical industry with a single input. Therefore, it is required to field install jumpers internal to the UPS from the input busbar to the bypass busbar. This assures availability of the static bypass circuit included in the UPS design.
All interconnecting wires between the UPS and other components (Battery Cabinet, Maintenance
Bypass Cabinet, Remote Status Alarm Panel, etc.) and the field installed jumper wires between the
UPS input and bypass terminals are to be supplied and installed by the electrical contractor.
The battery cabinets have several jumpers removed to lower the DC potential during shipping. The
Start-up service technician will install these wires at the time of start-up.
MAINTENANCE BYPASS NOTES:
The Maintenance Bypass can also be optionally configured with output distribution breakers.
This approach may increase the dimensions.
The Maintenance Bypass breakers can be thermal magnetic, or electronic trip (LSI) when upstream and downstream coordination is required.
The Maintenance Bypass fault current rating can be 35, 65, or 100 kAIC to match the potential fault current rating in the facility.
ELECTRICAL TERMINATION NOTES:
The UPS input, bypass, output, ground, and DC terminals are copper bus with holes. Bolts, washers, and nuts are included. The ground busbar holes are 12.5mm (0.49") diameter. All other busbar holes are 14.0mm (0.55") diameter. Tinned copper compression lugs are recommended to assure the best possible connection between the wire and the bus. The lugs are to be provided by the electrical contractor.
MONITORING NOTE:
The Remote Status Alarm Panel is displayed as one option for monitoring the UPS system.
Other monitoring options are available such as Dry contacts, SNMP protocol converters, and Modbus. Consult with CPN Power to learn available options. It is strongly recommended to provide remote monitoring of the UPS system.
UPS SYSTEM SIZE & WEIGHT NOTES:
Be aware that the UPS is of a size and weight that often requires a loading dock and special equipment for handling. Weight and dimensions for the specific unit are noted within this drawing set.
SERVICE ACCESS NOTE:
The unit requires 40” minimum service access on the front of the unit only. No rear or side access is required. It is always a good idea to leave 1" space between the UPS system and the surrounding walls for airflow and to minimize any vibration transfer. Service clearance of 20" above the unit is recommended.
GENERAL NOTE:
If unsure about any details, then call CPN Power at 617-628-2622
ELECTRICAL SERVICE NOTES:
Many Medical Equipment Vendors require a Wye service fed to the equipment, but do not bring the neutral to the equipment. If a Wye service is feeding the UPS, and the neutral is not used in the equipment, then a transformer is not required with this UPS system. If a Delta service is feeding the UPS, then a Delta/Wye
(∆/Y) transformer is required on the output of the UPS in order to generate the required neutral. DO NOT feed the UPS with a Corner-Grounded Delta (Grounded B Phase) System.
This UPS provides 3 phase, 3 wire power. If the load requires a neutral, then a Delta/Wye (∆/Y) transformer is required on the output of the UPS. It is preferable to feed the UPS from a Wye source.
The Maintenance Bypass includes mechanical lugs on the input and output terminals. The breakers include lugs within the breaker for the wire connections. The Battery Cabinet Breaker includes lugs within the breaker

Remote Status Alarm Panel (RSAP) (Optional)
The Remote Status Alarm Panel is a small monitoring panel that displays normal and alarm status information for the DCPC or UPS system. Green lights are used to indicate normal operation, yellow lights indicate caution, and red lights indicate a problem that most likely requires a call to the service engineer. The panel is equipped with an audible alarm horn. 8.5"W x 4.5"D x 8.5"H, 10 lbs

DRY Contacts (Standard)
Dry Contacts are available as standard on the CPN Power UPS system. There is one set of dry contacts. An optionally available second set can be used with a building monitoring or security system, and the standard set can be used with the Remote Status Alarm Panel (RSAP). Output contacts consist of form “A” dry type contacts. Rated capacity of all output contacts is NEC Class2 (30Vdc/
1Adc). All dry contacts should be operated at their rated values or lower.
The dry contacts monitor by default:
Load on Bypass
Load on Inverter

Rectifier Operation
Battery Low Voltage
UPS Overload
