1. Can the VA provide further details and part numbers for this solicitation? We are working on a competitive bid for this and there is not enough information available in this RFQ to determine a valid equivalent solution and therefore prevents fair competition.
Response: Equivalent systems are widely available from various Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) such as Dell, HP, etc. though they will most likely require piecing together multiple Stock Keeping Units (SKUs).
Furthermore, the SOW defines clear salient characteristics in Section B.4, that include: 1RU EIA-310 rack-mount chassis, redundant AC and DC power supplies, optical transceivers, and Ethernet interfaces, which define the minimum required capability, interoperability, and operational requirements to support the need of VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS).
The table below depicts how commercially available hardware can be integrated to meet the requirements.
Requirement
Model / Part
Purpose / Compliance
1RU Rack-Mount Chassis
R650 Chassis
Chassis form Standard EIA‑310, 1RU rack form factor
Redundant AC Power Supplies
DPS‑1100AB‑21A 1100 W (×2)
Hot-swap capable, redundant; exceeds SOW’s 150 W requirement
DC Power Input Option
–48VDC 1100 W PSU compatible with R650
Supports stackable DC input per SOW requirements
Optical Transceiver (SFP+)
407-BCBN 10G SFP+ module, 850 nm, 300 m, LC
Matches RFQ optical spec (SFP-1/10G-DF-SM-1310-10K equivalent)
Network Interface Card
Broadcom 57412 Dual-Port 10 GbE SFP+ NIC
Provides optical and Ethernet interfaces via SFP+ ports
Network Interface Expansion
Dell N3224PX‑ON
Provides 24 × 10GbE PoE+ expansion interfaces for network distribution; may require additional SKUs such as redundant power supplies, fan modules, and connector/stacking cables to achieve equivalent redundancy and availability.
Redundancy/Stacking Cables
SFP+ Direct Attach or DAC cables
Enables stacking and high-availability network topology (as per SOW requirements)
2. Is it acceptable to put multiple servers on a single switch (per room)? This would reduce costs or is the preference to have a switch per server?
Response: The SOW establishes the quantity of interfaces and power supplies necessary to support connectivity from connected systems. This requirement is defined by the component counts outlined in the SOW, not in terms of “servers per switch.”
Alternatives must meet or exceed the interface and power supply counts and demonstrably maintain the required connectivity, redundancy, and integration.
3. Can we receive the breakdown of how many servers are in each of the 23 rooms so we can quote switches appropriately for sizing?
Responses: Please see Table below for current configuration; however, The SOW defines the total quantity of required components as (63) units of the specified brand-name or equal hardware, to be installed across the (23) designated closets.
This requirement is defined by the total component count in the SOW, not by any per-room server allocation. The per-room distribution is determined by operational design and does not affect the procurement quantity or sizing requirements.
Alternative configurations will only be considered if they meet or exceed the SOW-specified total quantities and demonstrably maintain the required connectivity, redundancy, and integration.
