RFI #1
575-20-201 Modify Surgical Clean Core
1. RFP require a re-usable containment system. Is there a preferred brand that the VA may recommend? We are unable to recommend our preferred brand because we have no sole-source approval. The Starc TrueWall system was used for design reference, but an equivalent system would be acceptable.
1. Can the VA provide existing condition photos above ceiling where the firestop will be installed? No.
1. Per RFP access panels need to be installed after installation of fire insulation. Please confirm that the location will be from the 2’x2’ ceiling openings that the contractor provided for access during firestop application. Access panels will be installed in an opening used for access during firestop application.
1. Installation of new access panels will require additional framing for the ceiling. Please confirm that contractor is allowed to add ceiling framing as needed for the installation of new access panels. This is not acceptable. Any openings other than those identified must be patched and painted.
1. RFP require repair of hard lid ceiling after completion and acceptance of firestop work. Based on previous work by contractor at the 3rd floor ceiling, in order to achieve a uniform ceiling finish in these rooms, a complete re coating of the whole ceiling is required. Please advise if this is acceptable. The entire ceiling will not be repainted. The contractor shall make a clean line between existing ceiling finish and new finish. The dividing line shall be straight and parallel to the walls.
1. In lieu of coating the whole ceiling after repairs, is it acceptable to just cover the access openings with access doors as well? It is not acceptable to put more access panels than what is shown.
1. Note that in order to properly work above ceiling for application of firestop, a minimum of 3-4’ intervals of access openings are required (in order to reach sideways for wall firestop application). Is this acceptable to the VA? Any additional openings will need to be patched and painted.
1. Please confirm if platform panels can be installed on top of the ceiling for personnel access. The ceiling cannot support working platforms. Working platforms are allowed if adequate shoring is provided.
1. Contractor is required to apply protection for at least 10 each utility elements above ceiling. If these locations as identified by the VA staff if too far off from identified openings, is the contractor allowed to open more access locations to reach the identified locations? Any additional openings will need to be patched and painted.
1. RFP require install and assembly of Quantum Storage Systems/Vtrack. Can the VA provide a brochure for the product for reference? All information currently available was provided in the Construction Diagrams. Additional information will be provided to the successful bidder.
1. Please confirm that there are no existing insulation/firestop removal included in the scope. Note that any removal of existing insulation or existing non-compliant firestop will considerably increase construction cost. IF these exists after inspection (after inspection by VA) can these be evaluated as change order? No removal of existing insulation or firestop is included in the scope of work.
1. Phase IV require installation of door openers, is this VA supplied or by contractor. Please provide specification. VA will supply the door opener.
1. If contractor work will not disrupt facility operations, are they allowed to do other portions of work during daytime and weekdays? The OR is in operation during daytime and on weekdays, so no work in the surgical suite will be allowed except as described in the scope of work.
1. Will the facility provide coveralls to contractor upon entry to the work area or is contractor required to provide their own? Reference Specification Section 01 35 26, part 1.12 paragraph F.3.
1. Please confirm that a UL qualified fire stop installer and a UL certified inspector is required for this project. A UL qualified fire stop installer and a UL certified inspector are required for this project.
1. Reference to the requirement to install Quantum storage options, could you provide a specific model/style, size and container details? All information currently available was provided in the Construction Diagrams.
