RFI #1

1. Can you provide us with the most recent sets of drawings for this floor?

a. Answer, drawings will be provided through Contracting Officer.

2. Will the VA be providing someone to stand watch over the tools since this is a lockdown Facility? Or is it the Contractor responsibility.

a. Contractor will be responsible for all tools, however, there will be an escort provided by Sheridan VA Engineering during work hours to assist in tool control and as a support to unit staff for patient safety.

3. Can you provide us with a storage room for materials and tools, either on the floor where the work is being performed or as close as possible?

a. There is no storage available on the unit where the work will be accomplished, however, there will be a storage room in the basement of Building 8 provided for the contractor to store tools and materials when not in use on the unit floor.

4. The Door Switch Hardware can be interfaced with the Rauland responder V nurse call system. Does the end user desire such an integration or do they desire an independent system?

a. Currently this is intended to be a stand-alone, independent, system for the unit 8 floor only. If, however, the system installed has the capability of integration into other paging, panic, and or other alert type systems, that potential capability should be made know with specifications during submittals by successful bidder.

5. If the integration to the Rauland nurse call system is desired:

a. How old is the existing Rauland system? N/A

b. Who is currently responsible for repairs and system maintenance? N/A

c. Does the existing Rauland nurse call system extend to all 16 doors on the acute mental health care wing? N/A

d. If the Rauland nurse call system is installed in all rooms, are the associated strobes installed? None we noticed during the walkthrough. N/A, please refer to required system alert requirements in this project SOW advertisement which states, in part:

…“must have alarm alert mechanisms that are electronic, visual, and audible.”

6. If and independent system is desired, has a location been identified for the required headend equipment and the notification panel?

Headend and notification equipment will be located in the main office or nurses station on the unit (Immediately adjacent rooms). Final location to be confirmed after award. Number of Panel(s) must be provided and installed with the capacity to support all doors with installed alarms.

a. If more than one notification panel is required how many are required and have locations been identified?

Number of Panel(s) must be provided and installed with the capacity to support all doors with installed alarms. Unit requires main system in nurses office or nurses station. Final location to be confirmed after award.

7. Access control card readers we seen at doors during the walkthrough, but electric strikes did not appear present. Are the currently installed Anti-Ligature mortise locks electrified to support the access control system?

Answer: Sheridan VA Locksmith reports that the strikes are electrical.

8. All indicated doors appear to be fitted with Corbin Russwin anti-Ligature mortis locksets.

Do the existing locksets meet the new anti-ligature directive, or will new actuation handles be required?

Answer: Handle sets are not a part of this procurement action.
