X x x The purpose of this amendment is to include additional answers to questions received.
All other terms and conditions remain the same.
Because of the magnitude of the requested work to be done on tanks #13/14 at the fueling station, and their age from initial installation, I strongly recommend replacement of the two structures and combine into one single structure with two compartments. Otherwise, you may be paying for additional corrective measures soon.
Answer: This was addressed in the amendment verbiage for the SOW. We are asking for the Deductive alternate to replace the tanks in question. Two compartments are acceptable if they are each 1500 gallons.
As a temporary standby storage as requested, and I see only one generator tank at building #86 needing it, would it be practical, and approved to keep onsite, an in pickup 100-gallon auxiliary tank full of diesel that can be transferred to the day tank if needed in an emergency. Answer: Yes, this was spelled out in the amendment and can be used in conjunction with the onsite fuel requirements for the other replacement tanks (13 & 14). If required in an emergency, the standby tank can be brought to the building 86 tank to run for an extended period or to refill the day tank while being replaced. All the other generator tanks would NOT need to be shut down during any activities, only day tanks need to be full while work is being done on each. The fueling facility at building 42, tanks # 13/14, will however need to have some standby storage for its construction. I would furnish and set up two 500-gallon tanks with 110 Volt pumps in them for each of the two products, unleaded and diesel. These would be adjacent to the construction site. We, would put fresh fuel in each of the tanks. Would this be approved? Security measures would apply.
Answer: this is acceptable per amendment requirements, VA will supply 110 plug connections at buildings in close proximity.
Will 4000 PSI redi mix, locally produced, be sufficient for the tank top replacements?
Answer:
Given that the tanks need to be traffic-rated. We need 6” deep, 4600 PSI (6.5 sack mix), steel (# 4 rebar min.) reinforced with cold bends (around manhole ring) at 1 foot on center.
VA specs can be found at:
2.12 CONCRETE FOUNDATIONS (SECTION 23 10 00 – 30)
0. Concrete ballast foundations for underground tanks and concrete pads for aboveground tanks are specified under Section 03 30 00, CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE. Ballast foundations shall be sized for buoyancy of entire tank when empty. Credit for overburden is allowed.
