About this file
This is a Technical Specification document for patient lift and track systems required for Building 1 at VA Gulf Coast Health Care System. The specification outlines comprehensive requirements for ceiling lift hardware, including motorized track systems with continuous AC charging capability, integrated scales displaying patient weight on hand controls, and coverage systems (H, X-Y, or transverse configurations) designed to maximize room coverage while preserving privacy and avoiding interference with existing fixtures such as vents, sprinklers, and lights. The lifts must be capable of supporting patients at weights near maximum capacity with a minimum lifting speed of 2.2 inches per second at full load, feature emergency lowering via sustained red cord pull without tools or ladders, and include stationary locking mechanisms for both lift units and traverse rails controlled via hand control.
The specification mandates compatibility with Guldmann and Alpha Modalities slings, a ten-year comprehensive warranty covering parts, labor, travel, and annual ISO 10535 inspections and preventative maintenance, plus three-year warranties on reusable slings. Vendors must provide automatic, hands-free dynamic body weight support with real-time fall protection during rehabilitation sessions, allowing clinical staff to program and adjust offload weights during treatment sessions. Additional requirements include seamless transition capabilities to secondary rail systems via automatic, non-electric gate mechanisms; elimination of warning beeps during malfunction; fast support and parts availability; ongoing user education; and exclusion of easily breakable components such as rubber flaps on hanger bars. The solicitation seeks ceiling lift hardware only for this VA facility.

1. TECHNICAL
a. Ceiling lifts, curtain compatibility, and continuous-charge rail must work with new supports.
b. Scale must be internal; with patient weight displayed on a screen located on the hand control.
c. For any new rail design: Specify solutions that cover rooms as fully as practical given room shape while allowing privacy and not blocking vents, sprinklers, lights, or other fixtures. Room coverage (also known as H, X-Y, or transverse) systems are required unless other system types are approved by COR for reasons of design practicality. Designs should avoid requiring the VA Gulf Coast Health Care System to move preexisting fixtures or equipment.
d. Lifts must be intended to lift patients at least 20 times each day at weights close to the capacity of the lift.
e. Lift must charge anywhere on the track via continuous AC charging.
f. Hanger bars should not include pieces that can break off easily, such as rubber flaps.
g. Lifting speed must be minimum 2.2 inches per second at maximum load capacity, with a soft/slow start and stop.
h. The track rails must be capable of accommodating stationary lock for lift unit and/or stationary lock for Traverse Rail with user capability via hand control to separately position and lock the motor and/or the traverse rail in designated location(s) when indicated for patient care activity.
i. Ceiling lifts must be compatible and warranted for use with loop slings including the full range of Guldmann lifting and repositioning slings and Alpha Modalities repositioning slings.
j. Ceiling lifts must be able to lower patients easily in an emergency without the use of a ladder or tools, with a sustained pull on a red cord.
k. Ceiling lifts must not make warning beeps when malfunctioning or display flashing lights during normal operation.
l. The lift system must have a ten (10) year warranty (batteries and lifting straps included) including the price of parts, labor, and travel.
m. The warranty must include both ISO 10535 Inspections & Preventative Maintenance (PMs) as well as parts, shipping, and labor (including time and travel) in between annual scheduled service.
n. Supplier must be able to provide a lift with automatic, hands free, dynamic body weight support and fall protection in real time during rehab or mobility sessions; clinical staff must be able to enter a specified “offload” weight directly into the hand control, after which the lift must continually offload the specified weight as patient moves and their center of gravity changes, without the need for staff to continue operating the hand control. Offload weight must be adjustable during a single session so that a patient can progress during that session.
o. The track rail system must allow for seamless transition to a second rail system using a non-motorized gate system. The gate system must be automatic, non-electric, and require no external activation via pull cord or switch. The gate system must open upon alignment of rails and remain locked when rails are out of alignment.
p. Provide fast support and parts for equipment.
q. Provide ongoing education and support for users.
r. Reusable slings must have a three (3) year warranty.
