Statement of Work Installation of Access Platforms for Exhaust Fans 12 A and B Project # 629-22-111
The contractor shall provide all labor, materials, tools, equipment, and supervision necessary to Design and Build (DB) a project to install one or multiple platforms needed to access exhaust fans 12A and 12B in the 5th floor Mechanical Space of the Research Building.
The project addresses accessibility to suspended equipment for routine or emergency maintenance. This is critical for the continuous operation of the ventilation for the hoods located in Research building Lab spaces. The existing installed elevations of two exhaust fans is such (approximate 20 feet) that a lift is not capable of reaching maintenance access locations on four sides of equipment. Safety is currently an issue because ladders are necessary to be used for additional height to the existing service platforms.
1. DESIGN & BUILD SCOPE:
1.1. The design shall be in accordance with and capture the following requirements:
1.1.1. Design Development (DD): The DB Contractor shall develop 35%, 95% & 100% (Final) plans and specifications for review and approval by the VA. Verify all dimensions and equipment requirements.
1.1.2. The design documents shall incorporate proper construction phasing of work where required within the project period of performance.
1.1.3. Design drawings shall include all demolition and new work in sufficient detail to provide for a thorough review by the VA.

1.1.5. Design shall include all site investigation, site survey, measurements, calculations and testing for documents to construct the subject project.
1.1.6. Materials and equipment brought to the site shall be verified to have available space to maneuver the inside dimensions of Corridors, elevators and Stairwells. Maximum dimensions of sections or pieces of materials may be necessary as part of the design.
1.1.7. Access platforms/catwalks shall be constructed of similar materials to the existing platforms on the Campus site. Access shall be to 60” clear on all sides of equipment being serviced. Minimum requirements shall be to support the total weights of VA personnel and any related equipment being serviced. The structural design shall be stamped by a Professional Engineer.
1.1.8. A chain fall system, to include a ceiling rail, will be needed for removal and installation of existing exhaust fan motors, estimated to weigh approximately 1,000 lbs.
1.1.9. Design shall be in accordance with the VA Master Specifications and the following provided specifications with this solicitation and shall become a part of this contract and design documents. The Design Build Contractor shall develop all other applicable project specifications.
