3. Responses to RFI Questions RFI Questions and Answers (Received after 4/29/2026)
1. Is it the intent that existing walls don’t currently extend above the existing finished ceilings up to the deck? Therefore, we are to include cost for 2’ of additional metal framing and drywall to extend all restroom walls up to deck above?
Yes, it is the intent that the existing wall do not currently extend to deck. They can remain as is. A cost for 2’ of additional metal framing and drywall to extend all restroom walls up to deck above is not needed.
2. What exactly is required in the ceramic specifications? The specifications are not project specific and seem to encompass a lot of situations which are not applicable to this project.
The original design included both ceramic and porcelain tile which is why the specification has both. If a specification requirement does not pertain to the project or ceramic finish, please disregard.
3. Shower trim is called out as TS-3, this is the transition between the floor and walls in the shower and is shown in Detail 2/AI500. It is called out as Schluter – Shower profile – S on AI001. This profile is to be used to accommodate drainage to the Schluter Kerdi-LINE drain per Schluter. The drain in the showers appears to be FD-B (P001) which is not a Schluter Kerdi-Line. Kerdi-Line is a linear drain, FD-B appears to be a circular drain (9” diameter).
Please replace TS-3 (shower profile -S) in all the restrooms with TS-2 (Schluter Dilex-AHK).
a. How is this trim to intersect Schluter Dilex- AHK at the corners of the showers?
This trim will not need to intersect the dilex anymore as Schluter Dilex-AHK (TS-2) will be the transition throughout the restroom floor to wall.
b. Note Schluter Dilex-AHK and Schluter Shower profile-S are called out as different finishes.
Use only the finish called out for TS-2 Schluter Dilex-AHK in Brushed Chrome.
4. Please verify waterproofing (moisture barrier) is only in the showers and extends only 6” past the shower wall per 3/AI500.
Waterproofing moisture barrier to be extended at least 12 inches past the shower wall.
5. Will a mud bed be required at showers? Demo plans – Note 10 does not specify if there is a current recess in the slab or if a new one will be cut.
A mud bed may be required. Existing shower floors have a flush transition from the bathroom floor to the sloped tile shower floor.
6. Will the floors in restrooms need to be sloped to the existing drains? Specification 093013-3.6-D-8-c requires it, but no mention of slope requirements. Also please note sloping 12x24 tile will require cutting of tile which may not result in the most appealing look.
The VA TIL / code does not require restroom area floors to slope towards the floor drain. DO NOT cut the tile for sloping towards the floor drain.
7. Is crack isolation required?
No.
8. Will any expansion joints be required in the tile? None shown on plans and EJ171 requires the architect to provide locations.
There are no expansion joints in the restroom area for tile.
9. What are the working hours for this project?
Working hours are 7:30am – 4:00pm CST.
10. What is the schedule for this project?
Period of Performance is 365 calendar days after NTP. Contractor to develop and submit detailed project schedule.
