The proposed sharps containers shall be reusable as opposed to the disposable containers.
2. REQUIREMENTS. The reusable sharps container program shall include the removal and disposal of existing sharps containers systems (current container sizes are S22 four-gallon containers and S32 eight-gallon containers); Installation, removal, relocation of reusable sharps containers (including lockable mounting brackets, stationary stands, mobile carts, and bulk storage/transport carts); in-service training to key staff on use and handling of containers and proper segregation of medical sharps waste from other medical waste; monitoring reusable sharps containers at each point of use to provide timely collection of full containers and replacement with clean/sanitized containers; transportation and disposal of medical sharps waste in accordance with Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.
This program shall also include chemotherapy waste containers (eight-gallon) as well as sharps containers (four-gallon). Chemotherapy containers are designated by the color yellow. The yellow chemotherapy containers are only used in the Infusion Center in Bldg. 133 and are picked up weekly or on an "on-call" basis. The medical sharps containers come in a variety of colors other than yellow, black, or blue. The FHCC prefer sharps containers to be neutral in color so as to match the interior design of modern patient rooms.
3. FHCC RESPONSIBILITIES. FHCC staff is responsible for changing-out the reusable sharps containers at each point of use. The filled sharps and chemotherapy containers will be collected, transferred to the designated storage area, and swapped for clean containers – all completed by FHCC staff. The filled containers, collected by FHCC staff, will be moved to a designated storage area where the containers will be stored until the next service date; the Contractor will collect used containers for disposal and swap used containers, on a 1-for-1 basis, with clean containers. The filled containers and clean containers will have designated storage areas.
4. CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBILITIES. Contractor is responsible for ordering, delivering, handling, mounting, transporting, and disposing of medical sharps and chemotherapy waste filled containers – in accordance with the service schedule. Contractor is also responsible for the replacement of reusable sharps containers at key supply points within the medical center. There should be a minimum of 75 clean sharp’s containers and 25 clean chemotherapy waste containers in the designated area, at all times, for the FHCC staff’s use. The weight of each container’s contents shall be referenced on each invoice and certificate of destruction manifest.
A. The Contractor is responsible for delivering clean reusable sharps containers to a designated receiving location and exchanging them for used/full reusable sharps containers that have been collected from point of use by FHCC’s staff. The chemotherapy containers shall also be swapped (used/full containers for new/clean containers) weekly or on an on-call basis. Contractor will incur transportation, manifesting and disposal costs. Costs shall be based on weight in LBs, meaning poundage of container and contents minus container weight, unlimited change-out, for one fixed price per pound of waste, billed on a monthly cycle.
B. All sharps container brackets that are wall mounted must be mounted in accordance with OSHA and NIOSH and meet industry standard ergonomics.
D. Contractor shall provide service, to include buildings on campus external to the main facility, weekly or as required by the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).
