550-18-102 Replace B58-4 FCU's/Hot/Chilled Piping

RFI Questions

1Q Who is the host controls company for the Danville VA?

1A Conserv Building Automation Systems.

2Q Can existing ceiling tiles and grid be reused or is the expectation both will be new when being replaced?

2A Ceiling tiles and grid can be reused if they are undamaged.

3Q Will the VA be responsible for removing ceiling devices that belong to different departments?

3A Contractor is responsible for removing ceiling devices.

4Q Drawings state “Anticipate” pipe and equipment installation between 1700 and 0600. Are we to bid pipe installation this way?

4A VA does not make bid recommendations.

5Q Are there any portions of this project that require off hours scheduling?

5A Yes.

6Q The specs state an asbestos survey has been performed, but we couldn’t find it in any of the bid docs. In order to get firm pricing from ACM contractors we would need the report, so the ACM contractor has a scope to bid to. Please provide the report of the 3rd floor.

6A Provided.

7Q What company does the VA maintenance shop use for routine asbestos abatement?

7A The VA maintenance shop uses several companies, and the VA does not state a preference.

8Q If existing hangers can be reused does the VA want us to reuse these to reduce costs?

8A Pipe hangers must be new.

9Q We don’t see any containment walls on the 3rd or 4th floor. Please advise if they are supposed to be constructed and where.

9A See drawings and specifications to determine location of containments.

10Q Please confirm A53B Gr.B piping is acceptable for coil condensate drain piping and

Copper tube isn’t required. 23 21 13, 2.2 A and B seem to state either can be used for the

FCU drain piping.

10A Copper is not required for condensate drain piping.

11Q Will coordination drawings be required before any work can begin or does the VA leave it up to the GC and subs to determine pipe routing?

11A Coordination drawings are required. GC can determine pipe routing. COR must approve pipe routing.

12Q Will this system require a hydro or will the VA accept an in-service test?

12A In-service test is acceptable.

13Q 23 21 13 3.5 states to install water treatment equipment, but there are none shown. Please confirm this.

13A There is no water treatment equipment installed as part of the project.

14Q How are we to treat the water? Is there an existing chemical feed pot for dropping the chemicals into the system and testing the water?

14A Yes.

15Q 23 21 13 only allows for welding of large bore piping. We assume contractors are not going to be allowed to weld inside the building. It will be difficult to weld everything outside and carry it up the elevator. Given this, are grooved connections acceptable?

15A Use grooved connections for pipe sizes greater than 2 inches.

16Q Are we to use the existing building penetrations for the intake louvers?

16A When possible, utilize existing building penetrations.

17Q Please provide specifics of the “automatic flow control valve” shown in the 2-Way Coil

Piping detail on 58-M-501. Is this a manual balancing valve or supposed to be a modulating control valve?

17A It is a self-modulating control valve.

18Q Are ProPress connections acceptable? These are becoming the copper joint standard and are substantially faster than solder joints.

18A Yes.

19Q Site note 7 of 58-G-002 indicates “OBTAIN ASBESTOS ABATEMENT PLANS FROM

VA COR PRIOR TO START OF WORK. COMPLETE WORK FOR ASBESTOS

ABATEMENT PRIOR TO THE START OF CONSTRUCTION OR DEMOLITION.

REFER TO SPECIFICATIONS FOR REQUIREMENTS FOR ASBESTOS

ABATEMENT.” No abatement drawings are provided with the bid documents. No quantities were provided in section 1.1.2 of specification section 02 82 11 neither 02 82

13.19. Please provide the drawings and quantities of ACM abatement for this project for bidding purpose.

19A Provided.

20Q Sheet note E of 58-G-003 states for “ASBESTOS ABATEMENT WILL BE REQUIRED

AS PART OF THIS PROJECT. REFER TO EXISTING ACM SURVEY BY VA FOR

EXTENTS AND SCOPE OF ASBESTOS REMOVAL.” Please provide the ACM survey report within the project boundaries.

20A Provided.

21Q Please provide us the current photographs and/or as-builts of the existing ACT ceiling at the locations required to remove the ceiling at 3rd floors, which will help us to identify the equipment/object required temporary support during the construction.

21A Location of removed ACT depends on the approved coordination drawings to be provided by the contractor.

22Q As per legend provided in the upper right corner of drawing 58-A-102 it states

"REMOVE EXISTING FCU AND REPLACE WITH NEW UNIT. PATCH AND

REPAIR FLOOR AND WALL FINISHES. REMOVE EXISTING RADIATOR

PATCH AND REPAIR FLOOR AND WALL FINISHES". During the walk, we notice the different floor finishes(wood/vinyl) at 2 of the room locations. We were unable to visit all the rooms required FCU replacement due to the rooms occupied. Please provide the floor finishes at each room location required FCU replacement which will help us to understand floor patching at each FCU replacement.

2/A-102 FOR DETAIL OF NEW LOUVER." Detail 2 states “NEW ALUMINUM

LOUVER SEE MECHANICAL DRAWINGS LOUVER TO BE PREFINISHED W/

KYNAR COATING. COLOR TO MATCH EXISTING LOUVERS.” After reviewing the mechanical plans, there is no indication of providing & installation of new louver except on keynote 4 Page 58-M-102, which states "EXTEND SHEET METAL BAFFLE

FROM NEW 8"X16" WALL LOUVER TO UNIT OUTDOOR AIR CONNECTION."

Please clarify that we are replacing only one louver and not all of them.

23A Existing louvers may be reused if they are undamaged and not corroded. Room 412 requires installation of a new louver in a new wall penetration.

24Q Keynote 01 of drawing 58-M-102 states "PROVIDE DUCT AND BAFFLE FROM

WALL TO LOUVER TO UNIT OUTDOOR AIR CONNECTION." Please confirm that duct connection needs to be replaced at all new FCU installation or only at the locations where duct damage occurs during the removal of FCU.

24A If duct connections are undamaged and not corroded, they may be reused.

25Q General note 3 of 58-M-001 indicates “OBTAIN AND PAY FOR PERMITS, FEES, AND INSPECTIONS REQUIRED FOR THIS WORK.” Please clarify what permit is required to obtain, and how much does it cost?
