REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) RESPONSES

The following questions and answers provided clarification to the contract documents:

1. Can excavated spoils be stockpiled on site and used as backfill? Where is the nearest location for stockpile on site?

RESPONSE: Excavated soils that are suitable for backfill can be reused, refer to specification 31 20 00, articles 3.2 and 3.3. Soils can be stockpiled temporary on-site along trenches (if sufficient room is available) or at the designated staging area shown on sheet CJ101.

2. Has there been any soil testing or are all excavated spoils considered contaminated? If all spoils are contaminated, where are they to be disposed of and who pays for the tipping fees?

RESPONSE: No soil testing has been performed, therefore, all soils shall be considered contaminated. All soils that are suitable for backfill can be reused, refer to response #1 above. Any excess or unsuitable soils shall be legally disposed of off-site at the Orchard Ridge Landfill and the contractor shall pay for all fees for transportation, handling, and disposal, refer to specification 31 20 00, article 3.5.

3. Note 4 on Sheet CD101 indicates to “Remove Canopy, Salvage for Reuse”. However, the plans to do not show the canopy being reinstalled. Does the canopy need to be reinstalled?

RESPONSE: Yes, the canopy shall be reinstalled in the same location. See revised sheet CS101.

4. What and where is the bench mark for the site elevations shown on drawings CU101 and CG101?

RESPONSE: See notes top right of sheet VF101 for benchmark description.

5. In lieu of the concrete washout shown as note 1 on drawing CJ101, detailed on drawing CJ501, can we provide a lined/sealed concrete dumpster?

RESPONSE: Yes, that would be acceptable.

6. Drawing CS501 detail “concrete walks and pavement drainage at building” shows metal reglet flashing hemmed at concrete. On the east side of building 07, where the canopy and concrete work are to take place, there is an existing brick curb around the building. How do you want to handle this detail where brick curb exists? Can we install a ½" resilient joint and seal it at the top?

RESPONSE: The Concrete Walks and Pavement Drainage at Building detail has been removed.

7. General note 7 of GI101 depicted “PROVIDE CONCRETE BARRIERS BETWEEN TEMPORARY TRAFFIC LANES AND CONSTRUCTION TRENCHES.” This statement is redundant to the project, as there is no roadway involved in this project. Please confirm.

RESPONSE: Disregard General Note 7, it has been removed. See revised sheet GI101.

8. Our question relates to the grounding rod to be installed in the North-West corner of the electrical room in Building 7. Is it possible to install the grounding rod in the ground outside the building instead of in the ground beneath the building?

RESPONSE: Yes, all ground rods could be installed outside as long as spacing between rods is maintained.
