About this file

This document contains answers to questions from potential offerors on a solicitation to replace overhead garage doors at a Veterans Affairs medical center. Six new overhead garage doors are required, which must be locally serviceable and have two windows on the third panel to match the existing door configuration. High cycle springs and pneumatic safety reversing edges are needed on all doors. The existing door openers will be evaluated to determine remaining life expectancy, with all openers to be replaced if failing parts are found. Compactors located in front of two doors are to remain in place during installation. The project is classified as a Class II infection control risk. The virtual bid opening call-in information is also provided.

Questions and Answers:

It appears the existing doors have high cycle springs. Are high cycle springs required on the new doors?

Yes, more robust for opening and closing

Doors 1,2,5, and 6 have pneumatic safety reversing edges. Only door 6 is hooked up. Do all doors require new pneumatic safety edges with cord reels?

Just have the pneumatic safety reversing edges instead of the laser eye

Five of the openers are fairly new based on the Logic 5 control. Door #5 has an older unit with a different color case. Do all doors require new openers?

Installer shall evaluate current controllers to determine remaining life expectancy of the controllers. Install shall inspect the controllers for any failing parts.

For the six new O/H garage doors, is there a specific brand/manufacture you wish to use?

We do not have a specific brand/manufacturer in mind, but the doors must be locally serviceable

I assume that the VA will want the new doors to have two windows on the third panel of the doors as well?

Yes, we do want the windows.

Will the trash compactors in front of doors 3&4 be moved or remain in place during the installations of the new doors?

No, the compactors will not be moved. There is a cowl covering over the end of the compactor, if the compactor was to be moved the covering would remain, therefore moving would be of no benefit.

According to the statement of work for infection control, paragraph D, this project will be classified as class III or lower risk; if approved, could you please indicate which classification we should base our pricing on? The price difference could be significant.

In speaking with Infection Control, this is going to be classified as a Class II
