RFI Questions
1) Copy layouts for E1.01.01 and E1-01-02 on page 10, CS502 don’t match the ones on page 4, CS101. The drawing on page 4 looks like a sign with a header panel and changeable copy strips, but page 10 looks like 1 panel..
2) Page 10 shows blue signs with white copy, but there are “color notes” with completely different colors – which is correct, how many total colors are there and which color goes where?. The “color notes” list copy as black – Design specs call for white
3) Page 4 lists signs 067 & 068 as EI-04.02 Lit P&P, but Page 12 has 068 as remove only and Page 13 has 067 as
EN-03.03 NON lit P&P. Assuming EN-03.03 unless instructed otherwise.
4) Page 6 and Page 13 have sign N05 as EI-08.03, Page 6 lists it as 2’ x 4’, but Page 8 has EI-08.03 as 3’ x 4’.
Assuming EI-08.03 at 3’ x 4’ unless instructed otherwise.
5) Page 5 and Page 7 have signs 186 and 187 as 7’h Reverse Channel Letters and they are clear in a few places that they want them painted white ON THE INSIDE, but there is no spec for the exterior finish. I will price these as our fabricated aluminum letters with a painted finish unless instructed otherwise.
6) Sign 083 is listed as EN-09. The chart on Page 11 has 9 possible sizes EN-09.01 – EN-09.09. Please let me know which size to quote.
7) Page 13 Lists Other signs with noclear sizing, should we assume industry standard sizing for " No Smoking/
No littering/ ect of 12"x18" or larger ? If Not can sizes be provided for Signs
012/018/029/059/060/119/131/136/137/139/146/147/148/149/179/180/186
8) Page 12 calls for removal and replacement of sign 32 yet page yet CS102 calls for removal only
9) Sign 150 calls for replacement yet no type or size is given
10) Signs 028/029/030 signs are called out for direct replacement on CS 102 yet no sizing is called out
11) Signs N01,N09,N012, 162 are showing power pulling from lit poles, what volt/ watt's do we need to knock down from? Assuming 480 please confirm
12) Sign 63 Does not show a power run, should this be solar? If not where can we tie into?
13) 13) Please provide any photo's of site conditions and existing / new sign locations
After review of the bid documents for this project, we have found many discrepancies between the three different sources for quantities - the Location Plans (CS101-CS103), the Existing Signage Schedule
(CS601) and the Proposed Sign Table (CS602) – and in many cases they do not agree. For examples:
• Sign #158
Existing Signage Schedule states "leave in place"
Proposed Sign Table states “new sign - EN-06.04”
Location Plan references note 13 which is "remove and replace"
• Sign #101
Existing Signage Schedule states "leave in place"
Proposed Sign Table states “new sign - EN-03.06”
Location Plans shows that the buildings have been demolished, no proposed work
These are just two of many instances such as this.
We would need to know which of the three different sources for quantities takes precedence and that we should reference in order to determine the actual scope of work for the project.

REPLIES FROM GUIDON DESIGN, INC. 04/21/2020
1) Drawings and notes take priority over referenced details in the VA Signage Guide. Guidon can amend the signage spreadsheet to include a column for “single panel” vs. “removable panel style” if desired.
2) Color notes on plans take priority. Specifications will be updated and resubmitted as necessary to reference plans. Details referenced from the VA Signage Guidelines are intended to provide dimensioning and aesthetic intent unless otherwise indicated on the plans. Final Signage Details shall be submitted by the manufacturer.
3) This is two signs (image below) that are to be removed and replaced with a single sign.
Upon reviewing, we believe this sign style should be amended on the plans to be EN‐03.03, showing the following message:
EMERGENCY
SOUTH LOT RESERVED PARKING FOR:
EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT PATIENTS
4) Plans shall take priority (2’x4’). Details referenced from the VA Signage Guidelines are intended to provide dimensioning and aesthetic intent unless otherwise indicated on the plans.
5) White is the intended color for the letters. Signage manufacturer can propose how the material and finish to achieve the intended look. The final sign details and finishes shall be submitted for review by VA and design team prior to manufacturing.
6) Contractor to verify existing door dimensions and propose the exact size via submittal. There are only a couple sizes that are practical for the location indicated and cost difference should be miniscule.
7) Signs that are to be replaced shall be replaced “in kind” and as appropriate for the location.
8) VA to confirm if the sign is to be removed or removed and replaced. Guidon will update the plans per the VA and reissue.
9) Signs that are to be replaced shall be replaced “in kind” and as appropriate for the location.
10) Signs that are to be replaced shall be replaced “in kind” and as appropriate for the location.
11) Per note #5 on sheet ES101, contractor shall COORDINATE WITH OWNER AND SIGN SUPPLIER FOR
ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS AND LIGHT FIXTURES REQUIRED. VERIFY IN FIELD AND COORDINATE WITH OWNER FOR AVAILABLE CIRCUIT CAPACITY. VA may respond otherwise if they know off hand.
12) The existing sign to be replaced already has power. VA to confirm. Proposed sign will have equal or lesser power needs.
13) Guidon has a numbered inventory of existing signs and believe we have provided these to the VA for distribution as needed. VA to confirm if we should resend.
14) Signage spreadsheet shall be updated to align with plans noting “remove and replace” VA to confirm this choice. Guidon can review the plans for further discrepancies if the VA deems necessary.
15) This sign shall be removed from the proposed table. Other plans are accurate. Guidon can review the plans for further discrepancies if the VA deems necessary.
