Questions & Responses

1. I was wondering if you had any clarification about ICRA. We have dealt with ICRA in the past on other projects but just want to clarify the “more than 30 days we will have to bring 2 existing walls and 1 new wall to deck”. One thing we have suggested in the past is using reinforced plastic from top of wall to deck to save time and material. We have also done hard walls but please advise on which route you would like us to go. Response: The walls must go to the deck and maintain a 1-hour fire rating. The new wall will be built to the deck, the two (2) existing walls can be extended to the deck, fire-tapped and mudded to maintain the fire rating. Does not need paint finish above ceiling height. All protrusions must be sealed with UL approved 1-hour fire rated caulk or equivalent substance.

2. With regards to the 3 walls to get lead lined gypsum board in 1B-136; are we to follow standard drywall finishing procedures (mud, tape, mud and sand) or do we need to take any extra steps due to the radiation activity in this room? Response: The lead lined walls will have a standard drywall finish. (I do have the color scheme for this area, to include manufacturing data for the floor finish)

3. Are there any SPECS on Lead Lined Drywall? Response: Specs are attached for the lead-lined walls (See Attachment 1). The same specs will be used for the lead-lined doors. Outlets and switch cover boxes shall also prevent radiation leaks.

4. Do you have a Manufacturer on the Curtain Tracks that will be installed on this project? Response: Manufacturing data is also attached (See Attachment 2). The name brand is In-Pro. It must be anti-microbial.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

1. Finish schedule for floors, paint colors, and cove base attached (See Attachment 3 - 5).

2. Specification 13 49 00 [Radiation Protection] for lead-lined walls at the VA attached (See Attachment 6).

3. If the lead-lined drywall does not have a built-in “lip”, the contractor shall use a strip the same thickness as the lining on the drywall, installed behind the seam of adjoining pieces of drywall. (Note: This is also covered in the specification.)
