Question #1 Q. Page 6 of the solicitation paragraph d. i. states to install SFIC cores is approximately 3,800 existing door knobs. Page 8 has to supply 4,440 SFIC cores. Is this correct?
A. Yes, that is correct 3800 will be installed throughout the CSR and WTS campus and outbuildings. The additional cores are extra and for the surrounding CBOCs. The contractor shall purchase these extras but does need to not install them.
Question #2 Q. Paragraph d.i. also states if the smart core cannot be used on the doors, the contractor will provide the knob assembly to house the smart core. Does the VA have an estimated quantity of knob assemblies?
A. Some SFIC cores get stuck in the doors assemblies and cannot be removed and some doors may have old hardware that may need to be upgraded. We do not have a count on theses doors but there shall be no more than thirty that need to be replaced. If the door knob assembly needs to be replaced it shall be replaced with a knob assembly made by BEST. The new door knob assembly shall match the finish and type of door knob assembly being replaced.
Question #3 Q. The drawings don’t show which doors get the new cores. Will we get this information before bid?
A. No most of the door cores will be replaced. There are a few exceptions like pharmacy, IT closets and the canteen. That’s why the estimate of 3800 doors was put into place.
Statement #1 If a new outlet needs to be installed for the programmer the outlet needs to be recessed. If the outlet is unable to be recessed due to the material of the wall or other obstacles the outlet may be installed on the outside of the wall 1’ below the ceiling. If the outlet is installed on the outside of the wall 1’ below the ceiling the outlet shall still be protected by stainless steel guards. The drawing attached will show the upper mount installation.
Statement #2 If door knob assemblies need to be replaced due to stuck SFIC cores or damaged door knob assemblies replace with BEST hardware. The type and finish shall match the door knob assembly being replaced. No more than 30 door knob assemblies shall be required to be replaced as part of this project.
