STATEMENT OF WORK
Irrigation Ditch Project Alvin C. York VAMC Murfreesboro, TN
PART I - GENERAL
a. Introduction This requirement is for the complete rehabilitation of the irrigation storm ditch 20 meters north of bldg. 117 at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS), Alvin C. York Campus, 3400 Lebanon Pike, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, 37129.
b. Background
The type of work for this project would be the rehabilitation of the irrigation storm ditch located 20 meters north of bldg. 17 here on the Alvin C. York campus. The trigger for this project is an increase flow through storm culvert due to adjacent parking lots. This added flow is too much for the current irrigation swale and causing rapid erosion of nearby soil. This project will help widen and reinforce the current irrigation ditch to handle the capacity of the storm water that has been added to the source culvert. This irrigation ditch is approximately 330 ft from the culvert opening to edge of the pond.
c. Scope of work
• Excavation of old swale reinforcement (concrete, rock and metal culverts) and disposal off-site. Where swale/ditch passes under the pond fence and walkway, we will remove metal culvert and sidewalk and leave new swale exposed, per request of (TVHS)
• Widening and grading of current irrigation ditch path to a width of 8-10 feet and depth of 3ft generally following its current path from culvert to pond. In places with exposed bedrock, no hammering will take place. They will adjust the grading to accommodate these areas, but neutral areas could be present.
• Reinforcement of swale with 6-9” rip rap stone on top of geo-textile fabric to mitigate soil erosion.
• Installation of Grizzly Bars where swale passes under pond fence to prevent debris accrual and easy pond access through swale.
• Distribution of topsoil from excavation on either side of new swale. Exposed or disturbed soil will be seeded and covered with straw
d. Scheduling
The Contractor will be required to complete the task within 28 calendar days of award of this contract. Work can be performed Monday through Friday during normal working hours of 7am-3:30pm (excluding holidays) and extended working hours shall not acquire additional cost to the government to expedite or accomplish the repair(s) if required. All work (including phasing) must be provided to, coordinated with, and approved by the COR.
e. Warranty
All contract work shall be warranted up to 1month after completion due to the possibility of settling rock and or dirt.
Part II – Requirements
• All equipment, tools, etc., shall be properly maintained while on the project and shall be adequate, in quality and capacity for proper execution of the work.
• The Contractor accepts responsibility for the equipment identified in SOW "as is" condition. Failure to inspect the equipment prior to contract award will not relieve the Contractor from performance of the requirements of this contract.
• The Contractor shall provide all necessary barricades and take all necessary precautions to protect all patients, visitors, and staff from possible hazards. The Contractor shall remove all barricades when area is complete and ready for occupancy.
• The Contractor shall ensure that all work areas are maintained in a neat, clean, and safe manner. All waste materials generated during the project shall be removed from medical center grounds and properly disposed.
• The Contractor is to secure material only associated with this SOW in designated areas approved/provided by the COR. The Contractor is responsible for protecting the material from damage during handling, weather, and construction operations before, during and after installation.
Contractor shall meet each requirement listed below that is specified by the COR on behalf of
TVHS Medical Center. Submittals will be provided to the COR. TVHS will NOT be providing any transportation, labor, tools, parts, or material during the demo or installation process.
